Camping in Scotland

Camping in Scotland is one of the most beautiful and camper friendly locations in the world. Scotland is well known for its vast green pastures and pristine blue lakes. So there is no dearth of places that campers can choose from. Of these, Luss is one of the top favorites. Set in Loch Lomond, within the protected Trossachs National Park, and run by The Camping and Caravanning Club’s most beautiful sites. Most of the campsites are set right on the shore of the lake, or the Loch, as the Scots call it. So when you are camping in Scotland, especially on the banks of Loch Luss, you are treated to the rare delight of owning a patch of private beach on the shores of a beautiful unspoiled lake.

To the north of loch Luss is Inverbeg, which houses a Fine Art Gallery. So this is a perfect treat for those people who love both nature and art. Another commendable place of interest is the Firkin Point, which lies further north of Luss. While enjoying your camping in Scotland, you can also hire a bicycle and enjoy a ride down the numerous cycling paths, along the oak forests, to the lovely and picturesque Firkin Point.

For people who are visiting the country for the first time, it is advisable to visit Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland. Glasgow is one of the largest centers of art and Culture in Europe, and is famous for its many shops, art galleries and museums, including the magnificent People’s Palace. For people who are interested in nature, art and culture, camping in Scotland is the ultimate experience. Other attractions around Loch Luss are the cruises which depart from the pier. The cruise takes you along a beautiful shore line dotted with delightful houses and a medieval churches.

Another great place to go camping in Scotland is Oban. It is a delightful walled garden, surrounded by paths for woodland walks and beautiful mountain bike trails. To the south of Oban is a Sea-Life and Marine Sanctuary, which is a real treat for nature lovers. Another interesting place to go to in Oban is the Barcaldine Castle, which stands above the loch and has the reputation of being haunted. Other places of interests in Oban are the walled gardens of Ardchattan Priory, the Rare Breeds Farm Park and McCaig’s Folly. All these are very close to Oban; you can either hire a bike or take a bus. Along the way, you can find many places to shop and eat. Amongst the best known places to catch a bite while camping in Scotland is the McTavish’s Kitchen; they even offer complimentary tickets for campers. Scotland is famous for its islands; take a Ferry ride to the isles of Mull, Staffa, lona, and Lismore and spend an idyllic day exploring the very heart of Scotland. These islands are brimming with wooded trails and paths which are just meant for hiking. All in all, camping in Scotland is an experience of a lifetime. No nature lover and camping fan should miss this opportunity.
