Cotton tents are considered to be more water resistant as it can soak up water and become very heavy when wet and block even the minute holes. Nylon and polyester are lighter than cotton and do not absorb much water and will deteriorate in due course.

Camping tents should have window, vent and door openings with fine mesh netting so as to prevent from mosquitoes, and other biting insects. Most importantly selecting the color of the tent is very important while camping, as dark colors like brown, black and green are less visible than bright colors like yellow or red. Larger tents can be assembled in 15 – 20 minutes time. At times larger tents have separate areas or rooms. The number and age of people who will be camping determines the size and features of tent.

Tents are to be taken proper care after camping. When the camping is over and ready for pack up then wait for some time to allow the morning due or dampness from rain to evaporate. Clear all dirt or leaves out of the interior. Carefully pack the tent back in the exact way it was originally packed. Campers should keep the tents away at a good distance from campfire.
