I miss my tent 11/04/07

Monday 5 November 2007 @ 8:12 pm
I have been moving things up to the new house so I haven't been out camping in a few weeks. We are starting to settle in the new place. My dad really likes the place.
It is really quiet and peaceful.

I went out for a drive on Sunday and took some pictures. It is real nice country. It is only about 10 minutes or so before I hit the back country. I will be taking more pictures in the next few weeks. When I came back home there was a buck in the front yard.

I hope you enjoy the few pictures that I took and there will be more in the next few weeks.

High Lakes Area 09/30/07

Sunday 30 September 2007 @ 5:49 pm

This was a short weekend and I only got a few pictures. We went looking at houses Thursday and, Friday so I didn't take off until Saturday morning. There was a clean-up event scheduled for 8am Saturday in the High Lakes area. I didn't get up there until almost 2pm.

I met my friend Jerry and his wife Jeri (hope that is the right spelling) up there. We had dinner and drinks at the Outpost in Butte Meadows. I hope to go out camping with them in the future because they are good people. While I was trying to find the group I was suppose to help I found this place where I took the pictures. I will spend a weekend camping there as the sights are awesome. Yes that is snow in the trees and on top of Mt Lassen. There are some good pictures to be taken and I will make sure to find some time to do it next time.

I hope you enjoy the few pictures I took. Remember life is an adventure, enjoy the journey.

Feather River Area 09/23/07

Sunday 23 September 2007 @ 4:08 pm

Stopped in Paradise and looked at a place with a six car garage on Friday. Pretty nice place. I headed out to the Feather River area again. I have been here almost 24 hours and only saw one person so far and that was about 15 minutes after I stopped. I don't know how many pictures I will get this weekend as it started raining on Saturday morning. The trees are changing and there are still some berries around.

I hope that this is a big snow year as the lakes really need some water. I stopped by one of the campgrounds on Lake Oroville and was talking to one of the camp workers. She said the lake was down about 160 feet.

I may go to the same place I went last week next weekend as they are having a clean-up day and I probably should introduce myself to some of the locals as I am planning on moving up there.

Now that most people have quit camping for the season and the weather is changing it may be time to hit some of the popular summer spots.

I did find a nice place that I will soak in next spring and summer. I kept dry until it was time to pack and leave. I had a great dinner of salmon fillets and garlic potatoes but didn't get a chance to snap a picture of it. I will assure you it was tasty.

There were a couple of places I saw on my way in that looked like great pictures but the rain took them away. I will take them another time.

Enjoy the few pictures I took and I will try to make it up another weekend.

Thanks again for stopping by.

Butte Meadows and the High Lake area 091607

Sunday 16 September 2007 @ 5:54 pm

Well this weekend I started off in Butte Meadows. I had planned to meet Jerry (Kessler), his son, and his son's family around 5pm on Friday and then head up to the high lakes area. It looks like it may rain and Saturday is the opening day of deer season. Well his son had some vehicle problems and cancelled for the weekend. I spent an extra day in Butte Meadows.

I went walking around Butte Meadows on Friday morning and saw something that looked sort of odd off the side of the road. There was a small chain link fence up and I hadn't seen anything on that side of the road. I went up to look at it and it was a small graveyard. There were only a few markers and only two were readable. A little further up the road there was a memorial and a helicopter pad. As I kept walking up the road I saw different signs. The one with fantasy island sign I think had a small house for Tattoo. The camera and stuff is from the Outpost in Butte Meadows. They have a live web cam set up out there.

We started heading up to the high lakes area on Saturday morning. I saw the sign about God's country and had to get a picture. We set up camp and then I rode with Jerry as I hadn't been out there before. I think the BUB could have done most of it. I took some pictures of the different lakes and landscapes. Dinner on Saturday was salmon and southwestern mashed potatoes. It was very tasty. After dinner I noticed the lake and the reflections of the sun so I tried to take some mirror shots of the trees on the lake.

I then shot some pictures of our campsite. There is one video down at the bottom. I had a great weekend and hope you enjoy the pictures.

Life is an adventure. Enjoy the journey.

Milsap Bar 09/09/07

Sunday 9 September 2007 @ 4:00 pm
Well I went up to Milsap Bar again this weekend. I wanted to look at some properties on my way up and find those waterfalls. I finally found out why it has been so hard to find them. I was talking to a ranger and he said they don't really want people up in there so they don't mark it. He did admit that this is a low water year and it wouldn't be too bad this year and told me how to get up in there.

On Friday night I had tuna steaks and rice. It was so good I had to post two pictures. Another picture of my trusty tent. I may have to start posting a picture of my tent again. I bet riding that trolley across the river would be fun. It looks like it would be a real pain to get it to the side.

There was a fire about 60 miles from where I was at. The sky was hazy the whole weekend. A couple pictures of the river and the fish that won't let me catch them. The one that looks blurry is actually a dragonfly in the center of the photo. Those things just weren't landing. The last picture is dinner on Saturday night. Salmon filets. They were tasty also.

Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Moore Creek Campground 09/03/07

Monday 3 September 2007 @ 2:52 pm

Well the start of another great weekend. There are way too many people but I am hoping it will be fun. I am at Moore Creek again. The water is still dropping. I am not sure how many pictures I will take this weekend. I pan fried some marinated Ahi tuna last night. It was pretty tasty. Tonight is either going to be salmon or carne asada. I will try to take some pictures. The bugs are terrible. It isn't that they are biting but hovering in front of my face so when I take a breath I suck up a few if I forget to fan my face.

It rained on Friday for awhile and it was pretty nice. Saturday got pretty hot so I took a dip in the river. I pulled out my old tent and it still works pretty well for its size. For those that have been following my blog awhile this is the tent that I started using in the beginning.

It was like a refugee city up there on Saturday. There was tents everywhere and not just from our group. A lot of them took off on Sunday and it was nice on Sunday night.

Saturday night was pork tacos which were very tasty. I had salmon steaks on Sunday morning and a delicious dinner on Sunday night. It was a stew with beef, chicken, and pork. It also had beer, veggies, and spices in it. I ended up bring the carne asada home. I need to try and take more pictures of the food.

In the next few weeks I am going to be planning more trips around my soon to be new home in the Paradise area. Towards the end of the month I will be doing a ghost town trip. I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Thanks again for stopping by.

Philbrook lake 08/26/07

Sunday 26 August 2007 @ 6:15 pm
I went to a place called Philbrook Lake this weekend. It is just north of Paradise. The place looked pretty nice but the water was way down. I am going to write PG&E and American Land and Leisure about what happened and will include their replies if I get them.

The campground appears to split into an upper and lower campground. I pulled in the upper and saw a nice stack of firewood and decided on my spot. I went up to entrance to get my fee envelope and the vault said not to deposit anything into it and that the camp host would stop by and pick it up. Having been at some campgrounds where the hosts were elderly it made sense.

Right up from me 2 spots were marked off with one piece of yellow caution tape. After being here for a few hours and not seeing a camp host, this guy drives up and through the tape. His unleashed dog hops out the back. At first I am thinking it is some local who taped off the spots. He then pulls out a chain saw and I pull out my camera. He didn't have a front plate so I walked up by him and shot a picture of his plate from the back. He asked me what I was doing and I told him. He said he worked for the camp host, then that his dad was the camp host. I said well then it shouldn't be a problem. The guy freaks out saying he is going to call the sheriff and drives off in his truck.

I go back to making toothpicks to start the fire and this guy comes racing back up with two other guys. One could have been his father. At first I thought they were going to jump me but I had the hatchet in my hand and they thought the better of it. The older starts ranting about how PG&E pays him to cut the wood and do I want names of people with PG&E. He then shouts that it is none of my f'ing business or concern what goes on in the campground.

I am trying to tell the guy if that is the case then it isn't a problem. I also tried to tell him that I have seen too many people do resource damage before and taking pictures of it will usually cause it to stop. He then told the younger one to go back to what he was doing. I think he was either drunk or stoned. He went back over to the site and spent about 5 minutes using the chainsaw. I don't think the guy was the camp host.

What I was expecting and got for a reply was like I was doing something wrong. I was expecting a reply from the younger guy something like this: "I am working for the camp host and will have him stop by your site." From the older guy/dad I was expecting something like: "Thanks for your concern but he is working for me."

I am curious as to how other folks would have handled this situation. Tell me how you would have done it differently.

What makes me think that this guy isn't the camp host is that no one came by to pick up my fees. I was the only person in the upper campground the whole weekend so I really didn't have a chance to chat with the other folks staying in the lower one.

Well that was Friday afternoon.

I was really wore out this weekend. I am not sure why so I spent most of my time sleeping and stoking the fire. I tried to take some pictures and will have to get some of the sunset over those trees.

Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Thanks again for stopping by.

Milsap Bar 08/19/07

Sunday 19 August 2007 @ 9:24 pm

Well I decided to go back to Milsap Bar this weekend. I wanted to find those waterfalls. I thought I was on the right track on Thursday night but it started getting dark and I didn't have my headlamp or flashlight with me. I have found out that it is a stair type of waterfall so it isn't as great as a free falling one. On Saturday I hiked about 5 miles up the road and didn't see the trail. I talked to some locals on Saturday night and they said I stopped 2 miles short of the trail. I am going to go back out there sometime in the future.

I did a lot of hiking this weekend. Some of it was through the water so I wasn't able to take my camera. I am going to have to find some decent watershoes versus the watersocks I have been trying to use.

There are tons of fish but it appears they don't like my hook. What else is new? I think part of it is that there are so many bugs out right now it is like a buffet for them.

The food was great. This was almost an all Trader Joe's weekend. I need to get better about taking pictures. I bought a dozen bagels from Noah's but was bageled out after a few. I made some new friends from San Jose and shared the bagels with them. Some of the things I had this weekend were: applewood bacon and eggs, antipasto salad, salmon, chicken fajitas, carne asada, asian chicken salad.

I had a great weekend and hope you enjoy the pictures.

Thanks again for stopping by.

Milsap Bar 08/11/07

Sunday 12 August 2007 @ 8:53 am

Well as some of you know my dad and myself are looking for a place in the Paradise area. I am starting to look for places in the backyard to go camping. I think I am going to be a happy camper. There are lots of places.

This weekend I am at Milsap Bar. This is a short weekend because Alex's (my niece) reception is on Saturday. There is a 600+ foot waterfall that I need to find. I may come up here again next weekend just to look for that waterfall. It is suppose to be the third tallest in the US. I didn't even know it was here until after I got here and started reading up on the place.

It seems like the waterfalls are about 8 miles south of the campground. It also seems like some folks are living up here. I don't know if they are hippies or rainbow folks (Aren't they the same!) but it seems like they have set up a homestead.

I had a great time and am looking forward to next weekend. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Thanks again for stopping by.
