About Wood-Tikchik State Park

The parking spaces are rustic, there are few, and the management philosophy is a mix of old-fashioned and modern amenities, such as picnic tables and picnic benches. It was created to protect and maintain the continuation of livelihoods and leisure for all.

The park is characterized by its water-based ecosystem, so that it is named after the interconnected lakes. The lake system comprises an area and a vegetation zone known for its diverse beauty.

Lake Chikuminuk is closed to motorised vessels, but the other lakes in the park are open to motorboats.

Whitefish are an important subsistence species in the Tikchik Lakes, and sock-eye is the main commercial. Freshwater sport fish are generally very fertile and abundant in this region, but socks - eyes and whitefish, as well as some other fish species - are not abundant in Lake Chikuminuk or the other lakes in the park.

Elk, caribou and brown bears are seen throughout the park, but black bear populations are generally limited to the northern and eastern areas.

There are numerous marmots and marmots, and common species of small game and fur are bighorn sheep, elks, elks, wolves, coyotes, foxes, cougars and wolves. Birdnesting sites include water-pipers, capercaillies, bald eagles, owls, peregrine falcons, falcons, wolverines and other birds of prey.

There will also be a number of transitional periods, with a total of around 1,000 to 2,500 hectares of open space available.

The entire park is open for camping, but several locations in the upper Tikchik lakes require a permit. Permits are required for camping and swimming, but permits for tents and river cruises are limited and subject to charges.

Camping at designated sites throughout the park is limited to 10 consecutive days, after which campers must be at least a mile away from the site. Camping in a designated location outside the parks is also limited, with a maximum of 10 days per year, and camping within 10 miles of a campsite.

For more information on current permits availability, please contact Wood - Tikchik State Park Public Information Center at (888) 762-5555. The State Park offers a variety of outdoor activities including hiking, camping, fishing, swimming, boating, canoeing, kayaking and fishing. Campfires are limited and subject to the same restrictions as all other activities in the National Park, except for the campsite.
