About Roper Lake State Park

After a long day of driving and hiking, it is a great place to relax and enjoy breathtaking views of Roper Lake State Park and its surroundings. Ropers Lake, home to some of the state's most beautiful waterfalls, is filled with giant mouth fish and rainbow trout, and is a great place for kids to catch their first fish. Boats are limited to small electric motors, creating ideal conditions for sailing, on board and in canoes.

Guests can enjoy the magnificent views of Roper Lake and its surroundings, as well as a variety of wildlife. Take advantage of excellent bird watching and see Gamble's quail and heron and enjoy the great views from the park's bird watching area.

Roper Lake has a variety of campsites available for camping in the park, as well as a number of picnic spots. Reservations for tents, cabins and selected campsites are possible, reservations are possible at the Visitor Centre or by telephone at 1 - 888 - 743 - 5555.

Lake Roper is an excellent birdwatching site, common species are the red-winged, yellow-headed, red-footed falcon, black woodpecker, blue heron, blue jay, Canada geese and many others. Frequent encounters include bees, raccoons, rabbits, squirrels and coyotes as well as birds of prey.

Graham County has been working with lawmakers for several years to have a state park in their district, and HB 2150 was approved in 1972. The bill also included a permit to build the lake and authorized the construction of a 100-acre lake to operate as a national park in Graham County. An amendment was introduced by Representative John Roper, R-Graham, a member of the House Natural Resources Committee.

Roper Lake State Park has eight cabins lining the lake and plenty of recreational opportunities. Each cabin at Lake Ropers is differently equipped and has its own amenities such as picnic area, picnic tables and picnic benches. The visitor centre at Lake Roperssee is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm and on weekends from 10 am to 4 pm.

Each cabin is equipped with electricity, air conditioning and heating, picnic tables and charcoal grills are available in the well-equipped outdoor area. Candles and stove tops that generate more than 1,000 watts of electricity per square meter are not permitted in these cabins.

The cabins are available all year round, toilets and showers are within walking distance, as is access to a picnic area with picnic tables, picnic benches and a fireplace.

In summer, the cabins are open to the public from June to October, and the campsite is open in autumn and winter.

At least 10 vehicles are reserved for groups in the area, and each village has its own parking space with parking for up to four vehicles.

At the entrance of each campsite, Campsite Hacienda has a bathroom with hot shower and for over 30 years, a bathroom with hot shower.

Most pitches will be 45 feet long and the power supply at the Hacienda campsite will be 20 to 30 amps.

The Hacienda campground in Roper Lake State Park is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

Cotonwood campsite has a bathroom with hot shower and a picnic area, picnic tables, a fireplace and a water fountain. Most locations will have a vehicle length of 45 feet, but some places will have a maximum parking space of 50 feet and up to 30 feet in front of the tent.

Gila group campsites are used as non-electric campsites when the area is not reserved, but the power supply in ups is 20, 30 or 50 amps. Facilities include a bathroom, picnic area, picnic tables, fireplaces, water fountain and a fireplace.

Electricity is not available in all areas, but water is available in most places and in some areas of the park water fountains are also available.

All other locations are first served, so reservations must be made at least 24 hours before the opening day of the park. Some locations, such as the parking lot, the parking garage and the picnic area, can be reserved.

This is a non-refundable reservation fee and additional charges apply if a second vehicle is located on the same premises but the second does not pay for the use of utilities. Reservable pitches have a charge per night per vehicle to connect and must have paid fees for each night that connects the vehicle.

To make a reservation, please call the park at (888) 762-5555 for more information about the reservation process and to make your reservation.

The reserved space must be occupied on the first evening of arrival and the reserved page will be handed over to the visitors. If you do not arrive or do not call during the first nights, you will lose your fee and reserved seat. The ranger confirms that a non-reserved location is available. If you wish to move to this location, you must contact the ranger in the visitor centre to confirm this. Occupation or maintenance of another vacant building is not permitted and is a reason for eviction.

One party can reserve up to 2 locations at a time, with one party per site and one per site per day.

Reservations for weekend use are valid for the entire weekend of July 4th, July 5th and July 6th. During the summer months, campsites cannot be reserved on weekends because of the holiday weekend.

The festival takes place on the first weekend of July and on the last day of the camping season from July 7th to 8th!

The park has a swimming area on the sandy beach, but swimming is at your own risk and only possible by boat or canoe.

Non-motorized boats may start at the boat ramp, but no gas engine may be used on the lake. The park does not rent boats and has no parking for them, but only a parking lot for vehicles and a small parking lot for boats.

The park has a boat ramp and a handicapped fishing pier, and Lake Roper is accessible by boat from the parking lot on the east side of the park, near the lake.

Fishermen under 14 years of age must have a valid Arizona fishing license and gas engines must not be used on the lake. Fishing is not allowed in the swimming area, nor in other bathing areas such as the creek, lake or river.

Bring a shopping cart or other equipment that can carry picnic items, such as a picnic table, picnic chairs and picnic tables. The pavilion is about 150 meters away, and the Ramada archipelago a few meters to the right of it, about 100 meters from the lake.

Most of the area includes picnic tables, barbecues and shady Ramada, but the park is open to the public on weekends from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Mariah Mesa Nature Trail is 0.75 miles long and is signposted at the top of the mountain, south of Camp Camping World and a few miles from the campsite.
