About Toltec Mounds State Park

Toltec Mounds State Park, a historic landmark in Little Rock, one of the last surviving prehistoric hills of the Native Americans of Arkansas, is preserved as a national historic landmark. The hills themselves were part of a large ceremonial state complex, which was inhabited here from 600 - 1050 AD.

Managed by Arkansas State Parks in conjunction with the Arkansas Archeological Survey, Toltec facilities serve as both a state park and an archaeological research station. The park's visitor centre has an educational pavilion overlooking the hills and a museum with a collection of local artifacts. It also houses a visitor center, a museum of interpretation and an exhibit on the history of the state of Arkansas and its history.

Parking spaces and interpreters are available for guided tours by appointment. Self-guided tours are also offered in the park's visitor centre, museum and museum exhibition.

Toltec Mountains State Park is one of the most popular tourist attractions in New York State, attracting more than 1.5 million visitors a year.

A self-written booklet describes the archaeological sites that were inhabited by the Indians thousands of years ago. A self-guided 1.5 km path through Toltec Mountains State Park takes visitors to prehistoric Indian sites. Follow a flat grassy path along the now destroyed earth dam wall and see the 18 mounds that once stood on the earth dam.

Follow the Knapp Trail and you will arrive at a promenade that looks out over the grounds of the old earth dam and the Toltec Mountains State Park. Deviating from the Knapp Way to see the preserved sections where the Indians excavated the ground to dig and build the mounds. The Kn App Trail joins other trails in the National Park, such as the Kirtland Trail, a 1.5 km loop.
