About Morrison-Rockwood State Park

At the entrance, visitors are greeted by a large Illinois-shaped sign made by forgers from angle irons.

Once in the house, you can choose from a variety of leisure activities, and many unforgettable experiences are offered.

Morrison - Rockwood State Park is located north of Morrison in Whiteside County and covers 1,164 acres. The stream that feeds the reservoir is considered a first-class fishing spot and is home to numerous ducks and geese. Hiking, camping, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and other activities are planned in the park.

It was founded in 1971 and officially opened on the same day, with the opening of Morrison - Rockwood State Park as a state park on July 1, 1971.

The park is named after the densely wooded Rockwood Park in the town of Morrison, Minnesota, and the park's central point, Lake Carlton, is the watershed coverage area built in 1969. The reserve has been improved over the years, making it one of the largest and most popular conservation areas in Minnesota. It was named after the citizens of this town who actively promoted the park and were important leaders in citizenship and nature conservation.

Amenities in the park include a concession facility that includes a dining room serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, and a picnic area with picnic tables and picnic benches.

The bait boat rental shop is open until April 1st, and opening hours are from 7: 00 am until sunset on October 31st. The restaurant and the shop will open on April 1st, but the opening hours are Saturday and Sunday only from 7 am to 2.30 pm. Bait and boat rental and part store, the bait and boat rental parts shop, will be opened on 1 April.

The restaurant and shop are open from 07: 00 to 14: 30 on Saturday and Sunday, but the opening hours on 31 October and 1 November are until midnight.

The park is rich in wildlife and to the delight of visitors, ducks and geese often swim in the lake.

Lucky visitors can see the Great Blue Egret and other birds of prey as well as a number of other bird species.

Birdwatchers will not be disappointed at Morris - Rockwood State Park, home to more than 150 bird species. With numerous deciduous forests, the park has over 200 different bird species and a number of other wildlife species.

Winter sports are also popular in the park; ice fishing and ice skating are allowed on Lake Carlton, and winter sports such as snowshoeing, skiing, snowmobiling, sledding and snowboarding are all allowed.

Fourteen kilometers of trails will delight skiers, and the rolling hills of the park are ideal for tobogganing in the snow.

Camping at Morrison - Rockwood State Park will surely delight nature - the lovers among you. Ninety - two campsites are available in the densely wooded areas of the park, and each pitch has electricity and a barbecue table.

From 1 May to 31 October, there is a shower building with toilet flushing and a trailer dump on each campsite.

A two-lane concrete boat ramp provides easy access to Lake Carlton, and concessionaires reserve an area for private boat moorings for a small fee. Outboard engines are limited to 10 horsepower or less and must be operated at a top speed of 50 miles per hour to protect the coast from wave erosion.

Lakeview Picnic Area offers beautiful views of Lake Carlton, and gazebos and fireplaces add to the rustic atmosphere. While in the park, be sure to visit the picnic area, which is equipped with outdoor tables and stoves. If you want a more modern system, electricity is available, but it costs a small fee.

A three - and - one - half kilometer long nature trail is signposted for hikers, and a refuge can be reserved for large groups and family celebrations in the refuge on the cedar ridge.

Drivers can choose from 14 km of hiking trails throughout the park and enjoy many scenic views of the lake as you meander through the park. The path is particularly beautiful in spring, when wildflowers bloom and there is no better place to hide than under a protective roof.

Access: Morrison - Rockwood State Park is accessible from Chicago East - West Tollway: Take Rte 78 northbound, follow signs to Morrison and continue northbound. Follow the parking sign on the east side of the freeway at the intersection of North Milwaukee Avenue and South Milwaukee Street.

After about 2 miles, turn onto Crosby Road and turn left onto Crosby Road, also following the signs.

Turn right onto Milwaukee Avenue and continue north on Rte 78, exit Crosby Road and follow signs again, approximately two miles to Morrison.
