About Acadia National Park

When the rich came here at the turn of the century to have a good time, they had a lot to do with preserving the landscape as we know it today. George B. Dorr was born into this social class and is one of our most famous visitors to the park.

Located on the coast of Maine, Acadia is covered in granite - domed mountains, rocky cliffs and rocky outcrops. These diverse habitats make it a paradise for animals and plants, but the history of our people is linked to the natural diversity of the Acadian landscape. The National Park Service and the Maine Department of Natural Resources are committed to preserving their landscape for the benefit of the public and local communities.

The first indigenous people to live here at least 5000 years ago were the Acadians, the first inhabitants of Acadia National Park in the United States. In the following centuries, we brought a multitude of cultures, religions, languages and cultures from all over the world.

Hancock County Airport is only 10 km from Acadia National Park and car rental is available at the airport. National airlines offer flights to Bangor International Airport, which is about an hour from the park.

Acadia National Park is about six hours north of Boston, and Concord Trailways and Vermont Transit offer service to Boston Logan Airport from Bangor. I-95 will take you from Boston to North Augusta, Maine and from Mount Desert Island to Route-3 to Ellsworth. Route 1A runs from Bangor to East Ellworth, Route 3 from the Desert Islands to Mount Vernon, Vermont or Route 2A from East Augusta to South Augusta. Take I / 95 from North Bangor's Maine and drive north to Augusta and then onto Route 4A to the Maine-New Hampshire border.

Vermont Transit operates between Bangor and Bar Harbor during the summer months, and Concord Trailways and Vermont Transit offer service to Boston Logan Airport during the winter months.
