About Otter River State Forest
The Otter River State Forest borders Beaman Pond State Park and Great Lakes National Park. Yurt tents are also available, and facilities are located at Beamen Pond and include a campsite, picnic areas, picnic area, amphitheater and hiking trail for camping.
In the 19th century, parts of the forest were cleared for small farms, and the state forest on the Otter River was the first area to be acquired by the State Forestry Commission in 1915.
After the state acquired the land, it was reforested with pine forest planted by the Civil Protection Corps in 1930. The first campsite in the area was also built by the CCC in Beamen Pond State Park on the west side of Beaman Pond Pond.
The vegetation today consists of a mixture of pines, oaks, birches, pines and other tree species, as well as some grasses and shrubs. The forest is bordered by the Otter River, Beaman Pond Pond Pond, Beamen Pond State Park, the river and the State Park.
The Otter River State Forest is located in northern Massachusetts, New Hampshire, about 30 miles north of Boston, on the Massachusetts-Rhode Island border.
North of the park entrance, follow 202 for 1.2 miles to the left and follow it for another 1 / 2 miles. Take Rte. East, take east-west Route 202 to Otter River State Forest, then follow Rtes.
North of this, at the entrance of the park, follow this for 1 / 2 mile on the left.
