About Caumsett State Park

Cumsett State Historic Park, which stretches across Long Island Sound on a scenic peninsula, offers a variety of activities from horseback riding to kayaking, canoeing, fishing, hiking and horseback riding. The park offers a range of leisure activities including hiking and cycling, as well as licensed diving, boating, kayaking and paddling.

Marshall Field III acquired 1,750 acres in Lloyd's Neck in 1921 to create a large estate, and the land was called Caumsett, meaning "the place of sharp rocks." Field created a self-sufficient English-style estate by combining a golf course, golf courses, tennis court and swimming pool. When the property was completed, it had golf facilities, as well as a wellness center, tennis courts, an amphitheater, swimming pools and other amenities.

In 1961, Caumsett State Historic Park was acquired by the State of New York and designated a state park in 1961. The park is diverse and there are many activities that visitors can enjoy, such as hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, horseback riding, hiking and camping. Guided nature tours are also offered, focusing on the many bird species, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds of prey.

Within the Reitzentrum Weidenbaumhof, the polo and pony stables offer lessons and board schools for equestrian sports. The Volunteers Wildlife Hospital and Education Center is located in the park's Dairy Complex, which offers rehabilitation and hospitalization for Long Island's injured wildlife and is now open to the public on weekends.

The historic Henry Lloyd Manor House, built in 1711, is leased to the Lloyd Harbor Historical Society.

The Historical Society offers a historical interpretation of life in the colonial period through a variety of programs and events, such as guided tours of the historic house and museum.
