About Goose Creek State Park

Spanish moss - draped huge old oaks welcome you to a special world where the wide, rotten Goose Creek flows into the Pamlico. Just six miles away is the self-governing city of Charlotte, home to the state's largest public park, Goose Creek State Park. It offers hiking, biking, canoeing and numerous opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty of the park and its scenic views of downtown Charlotte.

If the hustle and bustle doesn't bother you, you can enjoy a day or two of peace and quiet in the summer at Goose Creek State Park.

The twelve well-equipped campsites, set under large pine trees draped in Spanish moss, include tables and barbecues. The primitive family campsite is located in Gansebach and Flachbach, the primitive single-family campsite at the southern end of the park.

Pitches are available on a first-come basis for a fee, toilets and water are available nearby, as well as picnic tables, picnic tables, picnic chairs and a fireplace.

Motorboating, sailing and windsurfing are popular activities, but all this is only for those who are conveniently located on or near the river. The overhanging trees, waterfalls and other natural features of Goose Creek create a tranquility that can best be experienced in a canoe.

Canoeists must bring their own boat if there is no boat in the area, but access is possible from Dinah's landing at the end of the campsite. Be prepared for storms, always wear a life jacket and always pack water, food and water for your journey.

We have abundant freshwater and saltwater fish, especially in warmer times, but the rules of the NC Wildlife Resources Commission apply. A state fishing license is required for fishing in streams and rivers in Goose Creek State Park and other North Carolina national parks. These species include trout, bluefish, redfish, blackbirds and whitefish, as well as salmon and trout.

From the parking lot at the entrance to the campsite, you enter the loop, which is about a mile long, and the promenade through freshwater and brackish water wetlands leads to an elevated viewing platform. The beauty of the cypress swamps is reflected in the picturesque views from a side beach and a stream, as well as from a high-rise building.

From the campsite you can take the short Ivey Gut Loop Trail, and the views of Upper Goose Creek offer great views of the creek and its tributaries and wetlands.

The 4.4 km loop leads along the beach along the Pamlico River, then turns around and passes a cemetery dating back to the 1880s. Enjoy the beauty of the wildlife in the deciduous forests and walk on a one-way path, which is approx.

Every time you visit the Pamlico River, take your time to enjoy the beautiful view of the brackish water. This 2.2-mile loop starts at the mouth of Goose Creek State Park, just a few hundred yards from the beach, and the views along the river provide a close-up view of freshwater swamps.

In Goose Creek State Park, rangers regularly conduct educational and interpreting programs. The Goose Creek Program introduces students to wetland processes and functions and discusses how wetlands affect humans and the natural environment in the region. In grades 4-6 you will develop an understanding of wetlands and their impact on the environment, human health and well-being.

This correlates with North Carolina's competencies on a variety of topics, including ecology, biology, geography, history, nature ecology, geology, and geography. To organize a group lesson, contact the park office for more information about the program or a full list of activities.

The programme is accompanied by a teacher's booklet and a workshop, which is free of charge for teachers. The program also focuses on the history of Goose Creek and its role in the history and culture of North Carolina.

Goose Creek State Park is located about 5 miles east of Washington, North Carolina, on US-264, south of Camp Leach Road. After driving to Washington, follow US 264 East for 10 miles, turn right onto Camp Lauchstraße and drive approximately 5 miles to the park entrance.
