About Dillon State Park

Ohio's rolling hills provide an excellent recreational experience, whether you are hiking along forest trails or boating in the quiet bays, bays or lakes. The scenic backdrop for your outdoor adventure is the scenic views of the Ohio River, the Great Lakes and the Appalachians.

Dillon State Park in Muskingum County is located in an area of the state that has diverse and unique natural features.

One of them is the Blackhand Sandstone, a hard rock that supports deciduous forests. Sand was collected in the area when it was eroded hundreds of millions of years ago by mountains further east and the region was covered by the sea, but not for long.

The rolling, receding farmland of the Dillon area offers visitors the opportunity to see some of Ohio's most magnificent animals. A quiet observer can see the White-tailed Wild Boar, a rare species of deer in Ohio, as well as many other wildlife such as elk, elk and coyotes.

There are 29 family houses nestled in the woods overlooking the north shore of the lake, and each house has its own garden, picnic area and outdoor dining area. A recent sighting of a bald eagle has been reported from one of these houses and several other locations in Dillon.

Bed linen, towels and kitchen utensils are provided by the Recreation and Parks Department of Dillon State Park, as well as local businesses and organizations.

The excellent beach is close to the park office and facilities include a canoe and kayak pool and a beach volleyball court. Next to the beach there is a picnic area with picnic tables, picnic chairs and picnic tables and a playground.

Four boat ramps provide access to the lake, 70 docks can be rented seasonally and boat concessions are offered. In Dillon, boat trips with unlimited horsepower are allowed and four-wheel boats with up to 10 horsepower can also be used.

There is a jetty, well water and a vaulted latrine by the lake, and picnic areas with tables and barbecues are located at many beautiful lookouts in the park. A picnic table (whichever comes first, the better) is located in an area overlooking the beach, as well as a picnic area with table and barbecue.

Visitors who love nature will find Dillon's trails to be exploratory, and hikers will be introduced to the region's diverse habitats.

Another attempt is the 6-mile Licking Bend Trail, which runs along the shores of the lake, and Blackhand Gorge State Nature Preserve, which is located on the east side of Lake Licked Bend, east of Dillon State Park. The Black Hand Gorge State Nature Reserve is located in the immediate vicinity of the camping and holiday home area at the southern end of Black Hand Gorge, about 800 m from the hiking trail.

There is a hand-operated lock system for the Black Hand Gorge State Nature Reserve, based in nearby Zanesville. Dillon State Park has two hand-operated locks, one on the east side of Lake Licked Bend and the other on the west side.

Zanesville has a number of attractions that reflect the cultural history of Dillon and the region. A short drive from Dillon is the Black Hand Gorge State Nature Reserve, a state nature reserve covering 1.5 million acres.

A ride on the Lorena Sternwheeler, docking in Zanesville Riverside Park, is a floating journey into the past. Muskingum County is a leader in pottery and several potters offer guided tours of their facilities. They offer a variety of courses such as pottery, ceramics, woodworking, glass making and more.
