The Richland Furnace State Forest is a mirror of days gone by, and if you look closely you will find the foothills. The hotel is located at the foot of a wooded hill in the middle of the forest, just a few hundred meters from the river. It is the oldest, as Indians used flint deposits in the area before the arrival of Europeans.

In the 19th century, the Hanging Rock Iron region was the site of the largest iron ore mining in the United States. Recent reflections on the past reflect a much more recent history of mining and mining activities in the area.

Although most maps still show the city of Richland, much of the old iron mining and iron ore infrastructure has disappeared. The stone that remains of an old iron kiln in Richlands is still standing, and a keen eye can see where many houses once stood. The ovens were usually staffed by 100 people who lived in a company owned by the city.

The furnaces operated the resources of the surrounding area, and the city of Richland itself was economically heavily dependent on these resources.

The iron ore needed was extracted by oxen from the sandstone and limestone beneath, and the trees were cut down and burned to produce charcoal for the kilns.

Although the furnaces have disappeared, their impact on the area's resources will continue for many years to come. The iron industry in Hanging Rock has faded, but the old ore mines are still visible along the ridges of the State Forest.

The Richland State Forest is managed by the Forestry Authority according to the multi-use concept. This means that the forest can be managed in a variety of ways, such as hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, recreation and recreation in the AVP area. Richlands Furnaces State Forest is open to the public and can be accessed with an all-purpose weapon of the Ministry of Forestry APV, the R.A.P.V. ("AVP"). The A-VP areas are open from 2 April to 30 November and from 1 October to 31 December.
