About Bald Eagle State Forest

Bald Lake Forest is home to many of the most important game species typically found in Pennsylvania, including bald eagles, bald eagles and many other birds of prey. In the bald eagle area there are thirteen streams, 47 miles long and fishable, as well as a number of wetlands.

Penns Creek and Fishing Creek are noteworthy, and the Federal Fish and Wildlife Service maintains a fish hatchery to manage these areas. In the Mifflin County section of Penns Creek, the Pennsylvania Fish Commission has established a fishing and release zone where trout fishing is permitted all year round.

There are five designated scenic approaches, and driving a car and walking for pleasure are important outdoor recreational activities. The district has a wide range of hiking trails and trails for hiking, cycling, mountain biking and cross-country skiing.

The Central and State Route crosses Route 322, which ends at the county line in downtown Mifflin.

In the bald eagle area there are thirteen streams, some of which are 47 miles long and fishable, and there is a 1.5 mile long, 1,000 foot wide stream system. Forest users are offered access to the Bald Eagle State Forest and the nearby Bald Eagle National Reserve.

The Federal Fish and Wildlife Service maintains a fish hatchery that manages the area, and Penns Creek Fishing Creek is particularly notable. In the Mifflin County section of PennS Creek, the Pennsylvania Fish Commission has established a fishing and release zone where trout fishing is permitted all year round.

Driving or walking is an important outdoor leisure activity, and there are five designated scenic approaches. The district has more than 1,000 kilometers of scenic trails and trails for driving and hiking, as well as a variety of other recreational activities.

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources provides all road vehicles destined for Pennsylvania State Forests with access to Bald Eagle State Forest and other state forest areas.
