About Linn Run State Park

Adams Falls has a picnic pavilion that can be reserved for up to 11 months for a prepayment, but you have to have it first, get it served first. Recycling is possible on the picnic area, and there is an unreserved picnic pavilion, so come first.

Please help us by putting garbage in the proper bins at the picnic pavilion or Adams Falls, the parking lot and park entrance at Linn Run.

Linn Run is located in the heart of the Laurel Mountains and the mountainous land extends from 1,300 feet to 2,800 feet above sea level.

Most of the land was purchased for $42,662 by the Byers-Allen Lumber Company, and when the Commonwealth acquired it in 1909, it was a depopulated forest area acquired in the late 19th century as part of a land grant from the State of Virginia.

Today, it is hard to imagine what the country looked like in 1909, or how people questioned the wisdom of buying.

Saw blades were sold for wood, small logs were used as pillars in nearby coal mines, and saw blades were used for sawing. The old forest was converted into a forest and wildlife area, but the entire area was cleared after the acquisition by Linner and Lauf.

Hemlock bark, a source of tannin, was bundled and shipped to tanneries, and many severe wildfires were caused by railroads bringing wood and other products to the market. The first report on the impact of the timber industry on the forest and its wildlife was written by forester John R. Williams in September 1909.

It must be said that three to five percent of the reserves for logs have been burned and the fires have caused great damage to young plants.

The scars of the early fires are still visible after years of forest renaturation, but these places are only covered by ferns and blackberry bushes.

White-truant deer were imported from New York and Michigan to be released into Pennsylvania. In 1910, the newly formed Pennsylvania Game Commission cooperated with the then Department of Forestry to replenish the deer population. Interesting traces are still visible from the Pittsburgh, Westmoreland and Somerset Railroad, which served the area. The main route was from Rector to Somerset on the west side of Linn Run State Park and from Somerset on the east side.

Traces of the old railroad bed are still visible on the west side of Linn Run State Park, but the tracks have changed over the years as new roads, bridges and other infrastructure have been built. Formerly owned and managed by General Richard K. Mellon, it was established in 1939 as a private Rolling Rock institution, commonly known as "Rolling Rock," and opened to the public in 1953.

Every year, thousands of skiers from the Pittsburgh area flock to Linn Run State Park to ski, snowboard and cross-country with their families and friends.

In September 1963, General Mellon leased a piece of land and its improvements to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In the summer of 1964 he transferred the property to our Commonwealth and in September 1965 to Linn Run State Park.

Nine rustic and one modern cabin are available all year round - but only weekly during the summer season, and nine rustic cabins, one of which, the modern cabin, is available all year round.

The modern cottages are fully accessible and all are simply furnished, but the rustic cottages have more amenities such as fireplaces, showers and toilets. In the rustic cottages you will be served with a full service, toilets and showers as well as hot and cold water and shower.

Many of the Linn Run trails lead to miles of trails in the Forbes State Forest, but mountain bikes are not allowed on the trails.

The Flat Rock Trail is a 1.5 km hiking trail that ends at the top of the mountain, just south of Linn Run State Park. The path is very rocky and passes through large boulders, but it is a great path for hikers and mountain bikers. The Iscrupe Trail is an easy 1 km loop that follows the original L inn Run Road and uses the Adams Falls Trail, a 2.4 km trail from the park entrance to the Forbes State Forest. Adams Falls Trail: The Adams Falls Trail, or Adams Creek Trail, is the first part of this 1 km loop that includes a mountain waterfall, rhododendron and hemlock.

Beware, the rocks are very slippery and swimming is not allowed in this area, but it is an easy 1 km long hike. The Grove Run Trail is a 4-mile loop that starts at the park's entrance into the Forbes State Forest, south of Linn Run State Park, and gets steeper and steeper. This part of the route follows the original L'Oréal Run Road, a 2.5 km trail from the park entrance.

In addition to Linn Run State Park, the Forbes State Forest has a number of marked and well-maintained hiking trails next to the park entrance. Mountain biking is allowed on the snowmobile trails during the summer season, and almost the entire wild environment is offered for hiking, biking, snowmobiling, mountain biking and other outdoor activities.

Mountain bikes are allowed only on designated trails in the summer and winter months, and only on mountain bikes - only on trails in winter.

Laurel Mt. Ski Resort is operated by a private concessionaire and is located on the west side of the park, south of Laurel Mountain Road. For more information on visiting the slopes or the slopes, please contact the Public Information Office at (888) 743-5555. Then drive two miles to the 493 acres, turn south on Laurel Summit Road and drive past the resort located at the intersection of Summit and Laurel Mountain Road, about a mile south.

To access the park from Ligonier, take US-30 two miles east onto US-30 and turn left onto Laurel Mountain Road at the intersection of Laurel Mt. Ski Resort Road and Laurel Summit Road.
