About Shawnee State Park

Shawnee State Park is one of the largest and most popular national parks in Kansas State. Shawnee offers excellent leisure facilities that are convenient, blend in with the natural environment, and are just a short drive from downtown Kansas City, Kansas, the city of Shawneesburg.

Shawnee State Park is named after the American Indians who lived in the park for a short time in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as part of the Shawnee Indian Reservation. The park is located on 451 hectares of Shawnees Lake, but it is also home to a variety of other nature and leisure activities.

The remains of the Forbes Trail in the park are still within walking distance, and General Forbes had his army camped on Forbes Road between Fort Duquesne and Pittsburgh during the campaign against the French in 1758.

The white barns, buildings and houses that are now surrounded by the lake once surrounded a sea of grass. These buildings belonged to John Bowman, and he was the driving force behind the construction of the Cathedral of Learning.

The two campsites are barrier-free, and each of the 293 pitches has space for tents or trailers, picnic tables and fireplaces.

There is no centrally located wash house, but there are a number of wash houses that are organized from April to December for youth and adult groups. The tent season starts on the second Friday in April and ends at the end of December. There is a camp selling wood, charcoal and other tent materials, which is open on Memorial Day weekend until Labor Day.

Centrally located on an island in the middle of the park, the three-storey house offers views of the surrounding countryside, a sandy, grassy beach with a modern bathhouse with toilets and showers. The lodge is wheelchair accessible and has a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, laundry and laundry services and access to the beach.

Unless otherwise stated, the beach is open to the public every day from 10 am to 5 pm, and lifeguards are in action. The swimming rules must be read and followed when the lifeguard is not in use except in an emergency.

Shawnee Lake, which has 451 acres, has three berths and 183 berths, and the jetty is ADA-accessible.

In summer, the concession rents pedal boats, canoes and rowboats for $5 per hour or $10 per day for a full day. All non-motorized boats must have one of the following boat licenses of the state: All motor boats must have a boat license from another state and a license plate.

There are five picnic pavilions spread out in the park, which can be reserved for $11 a month against advance payment. All picnic pavilions are barrier-free and there is an unreserved picnic in each pavilion. First come, first served, picnic tables, picnic chairs and benches are scattered around the parks.

The 3.4 km Lakeshore Trail is easy to manage and includes a small section of the common road.

The other designated cycle paths are of moderate difficulty, but can be reached by bike or on foot.
