About Lincoln Woods State Park
Lincoln Woods State Park is located on routes 146 and 123 and is one of the greatest treasures in the Blackstone Valley. It is a short drive from Providence, Pawtucket and Cumberland and it is a great place to go hiking, biking, camping, fishing or just have fun.
In spring 2005, a new covered bridge was inaugurated at the entrance to Breakneck Hill and the Eastern Mountain Sports Kayak Center is the youngest in the park. Visitors can swim, play ball, hike, cycle, canoe, kayak or just relax under the shade of trees on the freshwater beach.
On February 12, 1909, the park was named in honor of William Lincoln Woods, a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives and the first governor of North Carolina. Lincoln's Woods was purchased as a gift after his conviction, according to the state's Parks and Recreation Department.
Between 1908 and 1910, the Metropolitan Park System purchased 457.41 hectares for $26,755, and the total was increased to 458 hectares in 1912, 0.59 hectares donated by Nelson J. Ballou.
The swimming area in the park was named Frank Moody State Beach, after the founder of the Metropolitan Park System, Frank M. Moody. On June 18, 1977, the swimming areas were inaugurated as Frank and Moody State Beach and on June 22, 1978 as Frank & Moody Park.
