About Lake Saint Catherine State Park
The park itself was once a children's holiday camp and farmland, and the area is known for its former shale mining. The park, which covers 117 hectares, was opened in 1953 as a small picnic and bathing area, but the campsites have long been used by locals and visitors as well as tourists.
Green areas and access to the lake make the campsites very popular, and green areas and forest access around the lakes have made them a popular destination for hikers, kayakers and campers. A wide range of activities is available, including hiking, canoeing, kayaking, camping, fishing and swimming.
The park is well developed - picnic, play and bathing areas, as well as boat and fishing opportunities are popular on the lake. There is a rowing boat launch and a boat ramp as well as a kayak and canoe launch, but there is no rowing or fishing.
