About Kopachuck State Park

Kopachuck State Park is the only US national park accessible only by boat and is located just 800 meters from the shore. Kopachucks State Park is one of the oldest and most popular state parks in North America.

The park offers a variety of activities such as hiking, cycling, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, camping, hiking and fishing.

The part of the park, the island of Cutts, is only 800 meters from the parks and can only be reached by private boat. This beautiful park is set in a snow-capped Olympic mountain range with spectacular views of Lake Ontario and the Great Barrier Reef.

Kopachuck State Park is open to the public daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., except weekends and holidays, and weekdays from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The name Kopachuck comes from two words, Kopa, which means "Kopa" and Chuck, which means "water," and Kopchuck is a fusion of the two words.

This picturesque park was once home to the largest freshwater lake in the world, the Kopa River, which was once named "Kopachuck River" after its original owner Chuck Kopchuck.

Cutts Island, located in Kopachuck State Park south of the Kopa River on the west side of Lake Okeechobee, is also known as Deadman's Island. The latter name comes from the fact that the island served as a burial ground for saltwater tribes that were buried with the dead. It is unknown how the name Cutts' Island came to be, but the place was once called Crow Island after crow researcher Peter Puget discovered a large number of crows there in 1792.

The island also has the Kopachuck State Park Wildlife Management Area, the largest of its kind in the state of Florida.

There is a small shop selling groceries, and in the park there is a tent loop located in the Douglas fir forest. The park offers a variety of quiet, private, quiet - bed campsites as well as a large number of picnic areas and picnic tables.

Most accommodate larger mobile homes with connections, but the maximum length of a site is 35 feet, possibly due to limited availability. The tents in the camp are of different sizes, the pitches are small and only suitable for small campers. The playing surface is small, with a maximum height of 30 feet and a maximum width of 25 feet.

The park has two reservable group camps, both suitable for tent campers only. First, the campsite is served by a small picnic table with a maximum length of 35 feet and a minimum width of 25 feet.
One of the group camps can accommodate about 35 people, and fees vary depending on the size of the group ($5 for adults, $3 for children and $2 for seniors).

Check-in is 14: 30, check-out is 13: 00, and quiet times are 22 - 00 and 06 - 30. Make your reservation at the park office (253 - 265 - 3606) and the length of stay will be extended. A motor-powered electric generator will be operated throughout the entire stay of the camp, whether you are at the main campsite, the group camp or the private campsite.
