Cathedral State Park covers 133 acres and is located on the western edge of St. Louis, Missouri, in the state of Missouri. The region is hilly and mountainous, but the park is actually located in a rather gently sloping terrain, with a relatively low altitude of about 1,000 feet.

Cathedral State Park is home to a vast virgin hemlock forest that once flourished in the Appalachians Highlands. In the park, over 170 species of vascular flora have been catalogued, including a large number of native plants and animals, as well as a variety of wildflowers, shrubs and trees.

Branson Haas eventually bought the land in 1922, and Mr. Haas was born at the Brookside Hotel, which stood where the Park Rangers "home now stands.

On October 6, 1966, Cathedral State Park was registered as a state park under the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Cathedral is recognized by the Society of American Foresters as one of the 100 Best National Parks in the United States. It is remarkable that in the Dompark there are more than 1000 hemlock trees and the park also has the largest hedge hemlock in the state.

The area is in a natural state that allows physical and biological processes that normally occur without direct human intervention. Cathedral State Park is located on RT Road in the Dompark area of West Virginia, south of the city of Morgantown. The park consists of biotic, edaphic, geological and aquatic properties linked to the natural environment, intended for scientific and educational purposes, as well as a variety of other natural resources.
