The foothills of the Chugach are like a lighthouse for changeable weather, and those who are lucky enough to live here feel the influence almost daily. The mountainous backdrop of Anchorage reminds me of living in an urban environment and the local wildlife I # It is known that they migrate to the city.

At the foot of Alaska's second largest national park, the million-acre Chugsach State Park, which provides more than 2,000 acres of wildlife habitat, lies one of the largest and most beautiful national parks in the country.

Eagle River Nature Center rents cabins and yurts, and there is a public cabin on Lake Eklutna, but reservations are not required. All cabins in the yurt area are subject to a fee, as are the public cabins at the main entrance to the park.

Chugach State Park behaves like any other national park in Alaska, with three campsites offering a variety of camping options, including campgrounds, cabins and yurts. North of Anchorage is the Eagle River Nature Center, a nature center with a public cabin on Lake Eklutna and a yurt.

There are a variety of wooded places for hiking, camping, picnicking, fishing and other outdoor activities, as well as a picnic area with picnic tables and picnic benches.

On the grounds of the Eklutna Lake Group, campsites are available for organized groups, and the hosts answer questions about the area. Firewood is often available from the host and the campsite operator for a small fee. Non-motorized boats can be used on the lake, except on Lake EkLutta, where they must be launched by hand.

Whitewater rafting and kayaking on the Eagle River are allowed, and dollies and varden can be found on Lake EkLutta, Eklutna Lake Group and the other lakes in the group.

A new fishery for king salmon was opened on the Eagle River, and pink salmon were spotted in Bird Creek in June and July. Rainbow trout are fished at Lake Eklutta, the Eklutna Lake Group and the other lakes in the group, as well as Lake Chugach.

You can picnic anywhere in the park, but if you like a table fire, try one of the many picnic tables at Eagle River Nature Center. The Eagle River Nature Center is located in Eagle Creek State Park on the south side of Lake Eklutta in Chugach.
