The reservoir regularly produces bass of three pounds or more and is considered an excellent reservoir. Miller's Ferry has proven to be one of the most popular fishing spots for perch in the state of Alabama, and the reservoir is a popular destination for anglers of all ages, from young children to adults. Roland Cooper State Park has several different bass styles.

Channel catfish and blue catfish are common destinations for local anglers, and it is not uncommon for a blue catfish to weigh more than 30 pounds. Crappie fishing is best in late winter and early spring, and the crappies from the plant are concentrated in the bog.

The water tail also produces striped perch in spring, and late winter is a good time to catch big blue perch on the ferry, as well as the big blue catfish in early spring and summer.
