About Tannehill State Park

The historic Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park covers more than 1,000 hectares of land reserved for hiking, camping and outdoor recreation. As the early settlers recognized, the tree-lined valley of the Tannehill River and its fast-flowing river was the perfect place for successful iron production. The same ingredients offer modern visitors a pleasant escape from modern life.

In spring and autumn blacksmiths, millers and craftsmen show their craft. Miniature trains chugge through the pine trees, craftsmen occupy restored pioneer huts and chat with visitors on their verandas, and in summer a miniature train races along the river.

Tannehill feels timeless and steeped in history, and the old blacksmiths "huts, mill houses and working barbecues and mills retain a long-gone way of life.

The 19th-century Alabama iron industry artifacts on display at the Iron and Steel Museum put the awe into perspective - the inspiring centerpiece of Tannehill State Park. Hiking trails lead on historical trails through the old forges, mill houses, mills and mills as well as through the Iron and Steel Museum.

Horse riding is possible on the Tannehill Trails, and overnight stays at primitive or improved campsites are plentiful. It's difficult to visit Tanehill all at once, so come back and enjoy the special charm of each season.

In the summer, buyers and exchanges from near and far come to Tannehill Trade Days to look for goods, services and other goods and services that can be sold in local and national markets. Other events include the annual Tanehill Festival of Arts and Crafts and a variety of activities for children.
