About Patagonia Lake State Park

A hidden treasure lies hidden in the rolling hills of southeastern Arizona: Patagonia Lake State Park was established in 1975 as a national park and is an ideal place to see white deer - wild boar roaming the hills and large blue herons wandering along the coast. The campsite overlooks a 265 hectare lake where anglers catch cappie, perch, bluethroat and catfish. From October to March, trout are delivered for three weeks, as are salmon, trout, perch and other fish species.

Hikers can hike along the beautiful creek paths and see the sea bears, the river and its tributaries, and the old railway tracks. The remaining historical lines can be found through the Patagonian National Park Administration.

The park offers a wide range of activities, from hiking, biking, camping, fishing, mountain biking and camping to bee camping and fishing.

The lake was created by the damming of Sonoita Creek and is a habitat for perch, cappies, blue fish and catfish. The eastern half of the lake is designated as a protected area for angled fish and is stocked with rainbow trout in winter. Patagonia Lake State Park offers a variety of recreational activities, including hiking, biking, camping, mountain biking, camping, bee camping and fishing.

Lakeside Market offers a wide range of food and beverage products as well as food trucks and vendors.

A handicapped jetty is located at the marina near the Sonoita Creek Visitor Center, as well as a picnic area and parking on the south side of the lake.

Lake Patagonia allows swimming in all parts of the lake except the boat launch area, and there is a rope bathing area on Boulder Beach. Fishing licenses can be purchased at concessions throughout the park for $5 per day, $10 per week or $20 per month for a full-time resident.

The day pass for vehicles is $4 per adult on Labor Day and Memorial Day weekend and $5 on all other days of the year.

The site is located in the southeast of the state and will preserve a unique waterfront area. Patagonia Lake offers a 1.5 km (0.6 mile) trail that leads to Sonoita Creek and is a popular bird watching area.

Other trails can be accessed from the main entrance of the park at the southern end of Patagua Lake State Park. Sonoitas Creek is home to many bird species as well as a variety of wildlife, such as birds of prey.

A management plan for the area is currently being developed by the Board of Trustees of the Patagua Lake State Park Board of Trustees and the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNR).

Arizona State Parks will develop a wildlife observation area for the Patagua Lake State Park area.

There are environmental education programmes for all ages, research opportunities at the university and also an environmental education programme for children and young adults.

Designated as an important waterfront area, it is home to nesting black hawks, an endangered bird species, and a number of birds of prey.
