About Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park

The park protects the battlefield and reinterprets the site where the Confederate Army of Trans-Mississippi clashed with the Union Army on the border, killing about 2,700 people in days of fierce fighting. It is considered one of the most important battlegrounds in the history of the US Civil War and is protected as a battlefield.

Exhibits, guided tours and other programs describe the battle and its local impact. Drive through the park and visit the historic site, as well as the Civil War monuments and memorials. Head to the valley where the heavy fighting took place, or view a replica of the Confederate Army of Trans-Mississippi battle flag.

The story of the Battle of Prairie Grove is told through the park, which houses a number of historical monuments, as well as a museum and other exhibits. The trail is walkable and the trail is prepared for a variety of activities such as hiking, biking, horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking and mountain biking.
