About Lake Fort Smith State Park
Located in the heart of Lake Fort Smith State Park, north of the city of Fort Myers, Florida, this state park offers outdoor adventures such as hiking, biking, camping, fishing and a variety of other outdoor activities. For backpackers, the park is a popular destination for hiking and mountain biking, as well as hiking trails and highland trails.
On May 21, 2008, Lake Fort Smith State Park and the Ozark Highland Trail reopened in Fort Myers, Florida. The newly built trail reconnects Jack Creek with the original trail head on the west side of the park, south of Lake Park Road. With the completion of this new path and a new bridge over the creek, the LakeFortSmith Highland Trail will reopen on June 1, 2009 and will once again be the western terminus of the OZARK Highland Trail.
The OZARK Highland Trail, considered one of the most scenic in the nation, starts at Lake Fort Smith and then leads into the Ozark National Forest, where it leads hikers through a series of scenic and scenic trails from Lake Park Road south of Jack Creek. The trail starts at the visitor center of the newly opened park and leads south along Jack Creek, then north along the west side of Lake Park Road.
