About Will Rogers State Historic Park
After all, Rogers owned 186 acres overlooking the Pacific in what is now known as the Pacific Palisades. In the 1920s, he bought a ranch in Santa Monica, where he built his first house, a two-story ranch house, and achieved worldwide fame. The ranch became a retreat where Will Rogers could relax with his wife and children while pursuing his career as a singer, actor, writer, comedian and actor.
He died in a plane crash in 1935, and when his widow Betty died in 1944, the ranch became a state park.
The park is undergoing a major historic renovation that will restore the landscape to its former glory in Will Rogers' time. Over the past two years, the department has restored the ranch house and completed a significant portion of the landscaping program. In the next few years, the Ministry will move into the maintenance facilities and restore historical structures.
