It is located in the San Bernardino National Forest, north of San Francisco, California, and south of Los Angeles. In 1946, the property was converted into a state forest when the State Lands Commission transferred it to the then California Department of Forestry.

The forest of LaTour covers more than 1.5 million hectares of forest and the forest produces 10 conifers of commercial value.

The forest is normally open to vehicles from late June to November, but the winter and spring months are often covered in heavy snowfall, making the area inaccessible to vehicle traffic except for snowmobiles. In the forest you can hunt and fish in the autumn and winter months as well as in the spring and summer months.

Each campsite has a picnic table, fireplace, toilet and water, and pets are welcome but must be kept on a leash. Horses are kept away from the campsite and horses must always be kept on a leash, as well as dogs, cats, dogs and rabbits.

The use of scooters, carts and mountain bikes is limited to forest roads, but they are open to public transport if there is no risk of logging equipment.
