About Lums Pond State Park

Lums Pond State Park is located on Delaware's largest freshwater lake and offers a variety of hiking trails, picnic spots, a picnic area, an amphitheater, waterfalls and other attractions.

The Lums Pond itself covers 200 hectares, and boat moorings and two jetties allow easy access to the water. Boat rental and fishing offer water recreation, while swimming is allowed in the summer months.

Before the pond existed, St. Georges Creek flowed through the deciduous forest and was an important source of water for the Lums Pond and other watercourses in the area. In the 19th century, when the C & D Canal was built, the creek was dammed and water from the ponds was used to fill the canal lock and operate a small mill.

In 1963 the area was first used as a national park, and hikers have the opportunity to explore the various habitats. Lums also has three gazebos that can be reserved for large groups and picnic areas are available throughout the park for outdoor dining.
