About Orman House State Park
The house was built in 1838 by Thomas Orman and overlooks the Apalachicola River and is used for business and social events. From 1840 to 1870 Ormen was a cotton merchant and businessman in Apachichola, and also a member of the American Legion and the US Army.
It helped make the tiny city one of the wealthiest cities in the state of Florida and the second largest city in Florida in the mid-19th century.
Historic Orman House is located in Apalachicola, Florida, at the corner of US-98 and Florida State Highway 98. US 98 will take you from Panama City East to Apachichola and follow the signs to the traffic light in Apalacola or Ormen House. The house has a large veranda overlooking the city and its historic buildings. Guided tours are available hourly for a small fee of $12.00, and tours are available daily from 9: 00 a.m. to 4: 30 p.m.
