About Bahia Honda State Park

Henry Flagler's railroad from Key West made the remote island of Bahia Honda Key a tropical destination. Today, the island is home to one of Florida's southernmost parks, known for its beautiful beaches, scenic views and picturesque beaches. Visitors can picnic, swim or swim on the beach, picnic on the beach or just relax and enjoy the balmy sea breeze that caresses the shore all year round.

For snorkeling, park concessions offer boat trips to the reef, and fishermen can bring a boat or start at the boat ramp and fish from the shore.

Bahia Honda is an excellent place to see waders and shore birds, and the Nature Centre can introduce nature lovers to the unique plants and animals of the island. With fully equipped campsites and cottages, there is plenty of space for camping, fishing and other activities as well as recreation.

Located 12 miles south of Marathon, this is one of the most popular hotels in Bahia Honda State, with more than 1,000 rooms and a variety of amenities.

The railroad to Key West opened in 1905 and jokingly referred to as Flagler's Folly, but was finally completed in 1912. Later, in 1935, it was destroyed by a hurricane and the remains of the railroad were converted into what is now known as US Highway 1. More recently, the park has been given a number of attractions, including a beach, golf course, amphitheater and swimming pool.

Currently, the old Bahia Honda Bridge reminds me of Flagler's dream: The bridge offers visitors a panoramic view of the island and the surrounding water.

There are three duplex cabins (6 units each), which are equipped with accommodation for 6-person cabins. Bahia Honda consists of three different cabins, each of which has its own unique characteristics. Each cottage has a bed, bathroom, kitchen, dining room, bedroom and bathroom and is equipped with kitchen utensils, dishes, linen, etc.

The huts are built on stilts and can only be reached by stairs (there is currently no lift), and the huts must behave.

The way to the cabins has a height limit of 6 '8 "and all vehicles must behave. Vehicles must pass the New Bahia Honda Bridge and always move on the right side of the road and not on the left.

There are 3 different campsites in the park, and none of them require reservation, just a short walk to the cabins.

The Buttonwood place is the largest place in the park and has very little shade, but the pitch is better suited for campers and campers because it is gravel. This campsite has space for camping equipment, so plan ahead, reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance.

There is electricity, water, picnic tables and barbecue, and there is also a bathhouse with hot showers and a sewage station. The shore area is 12 - 25, but remember that 12 and 13 are moorings and 14 are a channel that leads to the moorings.

This is the most beautiful site in the park, but very small and has a small clearing and is located in a very rare habitat called a hardwood hammock.

This place can be used to set up tents, but is much too small and campers are not allowed in this area. A few places to use to house a small pop-up tent - this is one of the best places in the park to camp.

There are picnic tables, barbecues and water, and 57 of the 72 houses also have electricity. The riverbank is between 64 and 72% large, but it is not as popular as the other areas of the park, especially the riverbank areas.

Vehicles must be able to cross the New Bahia Honda Bridge and park at the Bayside campsite. The campsites are small, have only 8 pitches and no electricity, but they have picnic tables, barbecues and water, as well as a picnic table and a water fountain.

You can use the Buttonwood campsite, which is about 800 metres away, or park at the Bayside campsites. The pitches have picnic tables, barbecues and water, and nearby there is a water fountain, picnic table, barbecue, water fountains and a fireplace.

Bahia Honda has several white sandy beaches that you can enjoy, such as Calusa, Bayside, Buttonwood and the beach. CalUSA is a small beach located in the northwest of the island, about 1,000 meters from the main beach.

The beach and Calusa share the same bathhouse, and both are known for their large shallow sandbanks just a few meters from the coast. Loggerhead is a shallow beach on the south side of the island, about 1,000 meters from the main beach. This sandy path is the largest of all beaches and is located at the southeastern end of the island.

The sandy spur area is bordered by the main beach, Loggerhead, Calusa and a small sandbar section on the south side of the island.

Boating is a very popular activity in Bahia Honda and boaters have access to the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. The park has two modern boat ramps in the main harbour and 19 boat moorings are available for overnight stays. This includes a marina with a maximum depth of 2 feet, which is controlled by boaters and all available for overnight stays.

You can also bring your own kayak or canoe or you can rent a boat with an ocean at the top for a discount. For discounted rates, young and old can go snorkeling from the main harbor and from one of the many water parks in the park, such as the beach and the beach, to experience the beauty of Bahia Honda State Park.

Enjoy a quiet, relaxed paddle in the water park or kayak, canoe or paddle board in one of the many water parks in Bahia Honda State Park.

There are several good fishing areas in the park and if you prefer flying, bonefish, barracuda or fishing permits, you should visit one of the many water parks in Bahia Honda State Park. If you like to catch fish, from snapper to grouper, you can also fish in the water park or on the beach. Kayaks and canoes are allowed in designated bathing areas, and kayaks, canals and paddle boards are also allowed on the shore in some areas.

You must observe all fishing lines in the park and it is forbidden to collect tropical fish on the way to and from the parks.

The sand track area is located at the south-eastern end of the park and has 3 large gazebos and a barbecue area. In the parks there are several picnic areas, such as picnic tables, picnic tables and picnic chairs, as well as picnic benches.

The pavilions include a gazebo that can be rented for $5 per day (including taxes) or $10 per week for a total of $30 per year.
