About Lovers Key State Park

Today, more than 1,000 people and a variety of animals and birds live on the four barrier islands that make up the National Park. The island and its waters are a haven for wildlife, and only lovers travel to the island to enjoy its secluded, secluded beaches, said John D. Smith, executive director of Loving Key State Park. Over the years it has been a popular destination for lovers of hiking, camping, fishing, boating and other outdoor activities.

The 2 km long beach is accessible by waterfront or tram and is popular for fishing, swimming, picnicking and sunbathing. Black Island acts as one of the most beautiful beaches in Loving Key State Park and is a favorite destination for nature lovers.

Fishermen and sailors can launch their boats from the park's boat ramp, and park concessions offer a wide range of food and beverages, as well as a variety of activities for children.

Loveders Key State Park, Florida's second largest national park, is located on the west side of Lake Okeechobee, south of the city of Orlando.

The island was supposed to be developed in the 1960s and 1970s, but was severely disrupted in the preparation for development. Lovers Key State Park consists of two main islands, Loveders Key Island and Loves Key, and is one of the most popular bird watching areas in Florida. In the park you can also meet bottlenose dolphins and West Indian manatees as well as other wildlife.

The island was part of Carl E. Johnson County Park, which was acquired by the State of Florida in 1983 and merged with CarlE Johnson County Park at the southern end of the park in 1996. After the Black Island sewer system was dredged, the mangrove wetlands were turned into highlands and there was a long-term project to create a new park, Loveders Key State Park.

Legend has it that Black Island was named after a pirate who was captured by the authorities but later escaped and made his way back to his home on the island, making it one of the most famous pirate islands in the world. A fish warehouse was set up, but it was abandoned when the development of this idea began. On the Black Island there are several artesian wells that provide a source of fresh water.

The State of Florida is currently restoring the island to its natural plant community by removing exotic vegetation and allowing the return and planting of native plants.

Food, drinks and delicious ice cream are now available and a new visitor service offers kayaking, canoeing and bike rental. The nature and leisure management is responsible for the maintenance and care of the paths, trails and water features of the park. We have created a multifunctional facility that includes hiking, biking and cycling trails as well as an inland waterway for kayaking and canoeing.

The park has an excellent beach (2.5 km) and swimming is a popular activity, as is golf, and the park was selected by the Travel Channel as one of the 4 beaches in Florida. Lovers Key is the only US National Park with its own golf course, golf courses and other amenities.

We recommend exploring all three areas of the beach and discovering their unique features. The northern beach is located below the pass and a nice walk (2 bridges) leads you to the south beach, where there is a gazebo, toilets and a picnic area. Take the tram to the middle part of the beach, which is without natural facilities, or take the trams to the north beach and south beach.

Canoeing and kayaking are very popular, and throwing mullets in the bay is another popular activity.

Trout, redfish, snook and tarpon are caught seasonally, as are a variety of other fish species.

The park is located on the east side of the bay, south of Lake Okeechobee, and has a total area of 1.5 million square feet of land and 2,000 acres of water.

The pavilions are rented by the Florida Department of Natural Resources, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Florida State Parks.

The four hectare property on the shore offers visitors opportunities for recreation and recreation. Modern facilities offer a variety of amenities including a swimming pool, tennis courts, picnic areas, a fitness center and a pool house.

There are several picnic areas in the park, many of which are equipped with barbecues and garbage cans. Find the right place for a picnic at one of the many picnic spots on the shore or on the picnic area by the pool and on the tennis courts.

There are hiking trails, including the beach, and there is a hiking map that shows all. Enjoy the 5 km bike path, which includes the Black Island Trail and maritime hammocks. There is also a 5.5 km cycle path and 1.2 km hiking trail, as well as a 2.4 km beach path. The Schwarzinsel Trail is particularly suitable for cycling in the early morning and late evening hours.
