About Cayo Costa State Park

This barrier island park is a Gulf Coast paradise and one of the most popular tourist attractions in the state of Florida. On the islands, visitors can swim, soak up the sun and watch manatees and dolphins in and around the water, as well as a spectacular selection of birds.

The nature trails offer opportunities for hiking and cycling, and especially in the winter months, shooting is good. Saltwater anglers can throw a line into the surf from their boats and catch fish, but also swim and snorkel in the water.

The park offers primitive huts and tents for overnight stays, and an amphitheater offers educational programs on the ecology and history of the island.

Manatees, porpoises and a variety of shore birds are just some of the animals you can see during your visit. The sea turtle breeding season begins in May and lasts until September, and the manatees "mating season ends in October.
