About Don Pedro Island State Park

This beautiful little island is part of Don Pedro Island State Park, a barrier island that stretches along the Florida Gulf Coast. Boaters can moor in the mangrove-lined bay, with access to boaters from an access pier located south of the main entrance to the park's parking lot.

Visitors can see a variety of bird species, reptiles, amphibians, birds of prey and endangered animals, as well as a large number of reptiles and amphibians such as sea turtles.

Hiking trails and nature experiences lead to the island's 11 natural communities and a variety of wildlife habitats. Boating and surfing are also popular leisure activities, and there are popular activities around the islands "golf course.

Direct train and waterway signs guide visitors to and from the park, and the hotel is located on the west side of the island, right at the main entrance to Don Pedro Island State Park. The boat moorings are in nautical waterproofing table 25 and right on the beach at the northern end of DonPedro.

The Calusa Indians hunted and raised their families on the island by hunting and searching for shells, fishing and hunting. Among the protected species found on this island are the red-bellied turtle, the white-footed sea lion and the black bear. The people who fish this tributary are described in the Don Pedro Island State Park Museum of the San Diego County Historical Society.

The area was discovered by the Spaniard Ponce de Leon at the beginning of the 16th century, but a long population came. Although the history of Don Pedro Island State Park and its inhabitants is well documented, the San Diego County Historical Society says that Indians have lived on the island since at least the mid-19th century.

After many years of changing ownership, the land was sold in 1969 to a local developer who built a pavilion and dock on Don Pedro and built a free ferry from Cape Haze to the island.

The island was a strong selling point for the developer and the plan was to develop and build condos on the beautiful property, with golf in front of it. In 1984, the state bought Don Pedro Island for $6 million as part of the Save the Coasts program and put it up for sale, with residents using it as a private playground on the island.

This meant that ferry services to and from the island had to be suspended for the first time in its history due to the construction of the golf course.

There are currently no plans for a new golf course in Don Pedro Island State Park, but future uses are being considered. In addition, it is the only US national park with golf courses on the island and there is no public access to the park from the mainland.

Don Pedro Island State Park is located on Little Gasparilla Island and can only be reached by private boat. The park offers a variety of activities such as hiking, cycling, kayaking and swimming on the beautiful golf beach.

The beach is ideal for boating, kayaking, swimming, canoeing, snorkeling, fishing and other recreational activities, as well as a variety of activities for children.

The docks are only available for daily use and are located on the book side of the canals and inland waterways. Fishing is possible along the inland waterways and in the Gulf of Mexico, and offers a great source of fresh water as well as a variety of other recreational activities.

Picnic pavilions, toilets, tables and barbecues are available on the island; for more information, please visit the park. You can rent a gazebo for $10 a day, or $20 a week for a two-day stay (first come, first served) and $30 a month.

Enjoy the nature trails that wind around the island's eleven different natural communities. Along the way you can see all the protected plant species on the islands, including the air - common plants, wild flowers, trees, shrubs, grasses and much more.

Diving is also possible outside the beach, but you must bring your own equipment and you will have to pay for it.

Pets are not allowed in the park and visitors are reminded that the use of live grenades is prohibited. Mussels are a popular activity in the parks, especially in the winter months, but not in the summer months.

Farm animals are not welcome in any area or building of the park except as required by law. Pets must not be left unattended and must be well trained and always kept on a leash, within six meters of the hand.
