About Honeymoon Island State Park

Honeymoon Isle became one of New Jersey's most popular tourist destinations in 1939, when a New York developer built 50 palm trees and thatched bungalows for a honeymoon. The pioneer called it Hog Island and it became Honeymoon Island State Park, the largest national park in the United States. Nature lovers will find the only remaining pine forest on the island, as well as a variety of wildlife habitats. Visitors can drive to enjoy the sun - soaked golf courses and beaches, hiking, fishing, kayaking, boating, canoeing, swimming and much more. This park has more than 1,000 hectares of trails and trails for all ages, with a total of 4,500 hectares.

The shelling is particularly good as the Gulf currents deposit an incredible variety of shells along the coast and visitors can swim in them while enjoying the beautiful scenery. The hotel is located directly on the beach, a few hundred meters from the main entrance of the park. Showers are available, and parking concessions have a gift shop and snack bar.

Honeymoon Island is home to a large number of actively breeding birds and several species of sea turtles. Sacrificial turtles and armadillos can be found on the picnic area and nature trails and are often seen eating the bays, beaches and estuaries of the park.

Kayaks, parasols and sun loungers can be rented, and park concessions offer food, drinks, beach supplies and souvenirs.

Kayaks can be rented at a reduced price or, if you have your own, explore Pelican Cove, which is located on the sand and spider trail. Along the coast, about 4 miles, beach lovers will find a petting beach, a great shellfish path at the north end that turns into a sandbar, and plenty of opportunities to swim from the main beach. No fishing license is required, but kayaks, parasols and deck chairs are available for $5 per person or $10 per day for a family of four.

Surfing is allowed in the park, and it is usually pretty good at the northern end of Bathhouse 3, but there are no toilets in this park.

Next to the nature trail there are two covered picnic pavilions for barbecues, and you can reserve a gazebo for a fee.

At the northern end of the island there is a picnic area with a playground, as well as some other picnic areas at the southern end.

In the park there are various kiosks for interpretation, and at the southern end of the island there are two covered pavilions, one at the northern end and one at the southern end.

The Rotary Centennial Nature Center is a great place to get to know the plants and animals that live on the island. The elevated viewing platform offers an excellent opportunity to observe birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, birds of prey and other animals.

Dogs are allowed in designated areas, but pets must always be kept on a leash in these areas and pets are not allowed on the beach.

Honeymoon Island State Park is located on the south side of I-275, just south of the intersection of Interstate 275 and Interstate 95. I / 275 follows the same route as the main thoroughfare of State Park, from Interstate 94 to the northern end of Honeymoon Beach.

West, take the SR 580 to the junction with the SR 586, leave it and follow it through the park westwards. West, follow SR 686 West into the parks and then leave at junctions I - 275 and
