About Cloudland Canyon State Park

Located on the western edge of Lookout Mountain, the park is one of the most scenic in the state. It offers rugged geology and beautiful views. The park stretches along Sitton Gulch Creek, which cuts a deep gorge into the mountain, and the elevation varies between 800 and 1,980 feet. Some of our most spectacular views from the gorge offer a rest area and parking, but there are other views along the rock paths.

Hard-boiled visitors who climb the 600-step staircase, which includes a 1.50-metre waterfall and a 3-kilometre-long hiking trail, will find two waterfalls falling from sandstone and slate into the basin below. The cabins are located in a park that offers exceptional privacy, from tents and campsites on foot. Be sure to visit the campgrounds, picnic tables and other amenities at Cloudland Canyon State Park.

Outdoor lovers should not miss the spectacular landscape of the park with a variety of hiking, camping, fishing, mountain biking and mountaineering trails.

The waterfall trail starts with a cobblestone path for the main view and descends a 40 degree steep slope into the gorge. The trail climbs slightly into a hollow full of spring and summer flowers, leads through open forest and then leads back to hemlock at the other end of the loop via a slight ascent.

Backcountry Loop offers a number of secluded campsites, nestled between pristine Hemmelocks and scenic views of the waterfalls of Cloudland Canyon State Park. This path led through the open forest before descending the steepest part of the trail to a shallow spring hollow filled with summer flowers.

The main part of the path consists of a series of gravel stairs and steps with a total length of over 400 feet, with a total vertical difference of about 2000 feet.

The waterfalls are among the most beautiful in the state and fall from steep rocks at an altitude of 60 to 90 feet. It is strictly forbidden to climb on these rocks and consume at any time on them. The rule is enforced by the California Department of Natural Resources and California State Parks.

The West Rim Loop Trail is one of the most popular hiking trails in Cloudland Canyon State Park and is located on the west side of Sand Mountain, east of Daniels Creek. The trail starts at the Daniels Creek Bridge and leads from the gorge to the plateau, offering a view of the neighboring Sandberg and its surroundings. This hike is of medium difficulty, with the greatest effort in several short sections, but it leads into varied terrain.
