About Harrison Bay State Park

Harrison Bay State Park, which covers 1,200 acres and is about 40 miles around Chickamauga Lake, was originally developed in the 1930s as a Tennessee Valley Authority theme park. The park is of historical importance because it is located near Cherokee Camp, which consists of three villages dominated by the Cherokee Nation, one of the most powerful tribes in North America. Its name is derived from Harrison Bay Bay, the name of a creek that covers it and from which it takes its name.

This beautiful wooded park is part of the surrounding tri-state area of Chattanooga, Tennessee, home to the Tennessee Valley Authority theme park and other attractions.

Seven of the eighteen holes are close to the water and offer views along the coast of the Chickamauga Reservoir. It has a well-caught green with a variety of green paths and a number of holes in the stream. For information, call (423) 543-5555 on the Tennessee Valley Authority's website or visit the Chattanooga Parks and Recreation Department.

The park has a large meeting room that can accommodate up to 100 people, and there is a limited number of parking spaces in the parking lot that can accommodate campers up to a height of 60 meters. For more information, call the park office at (423) 344-6214 or visit the Chattanooga Parks and Recreation Department website.

The central landfill is located on the Tennessee River and is inhabited by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Tennessee Department of Environment and Natural Resources (TNR).

There are 21 campsites with electricity and water, and the bathhouse is located between 4 playgrounds. Tents are limited to one family unit per pitch and can be pitched next to campers, but the site is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations are accepted and seats are available on the First Come, First served principle.

The group camps in the park consist of 24 rustic cabins, each of which can accommodate 144 people, and the kitchen of the group camp is fully equipped with a hob, oven, microwave, gas hob and hob.

Each section has six showers, each with six shower facilities, and each with a shower head, sink, shower curtain, toilet and shower cabin.

The swimming pool is open from the Volkstrauertag until late summer, and the lifeguards are in use. The park has two paddling pools, one for kayaking and the other for snorkeling and swimming.

All types of boats and water sports boats are allowed in the park, and there is no fee. Boats are not available for hire, but the boat ramp is open to the public and the parking lot is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm.

The marina can accommodate up to 20 feet, and there is the possibility of transit for one night.

The park also has a picnic area with picnic tables, picnic benches, covered slides, a playground, play equipment and a swimming pool.

If you do not dock at the marina, fuel is available and there is a $5 fee, but the pumping station will be closed until November 1 when it is made winterproof.

The park has 3 large pavilions that can accommodate large groups and each pavilion can be reserved up to a year in advance.

There are three hiking trails in the park, and from the parking lot to the picnic area there is a 4 km long hiking trail and a 2 km long hiking trail. There is an outdoor barbecue area with grill, barbecue - equipped and grills and water cones are available.

The hiking trails are open all year round, and there is a cycle path from the marina to the picnic area. You can access Harrison Bay State Park from one of the four main roads in the park or from other nearby towns and villages.
