About Walnut Point State Park

The 631-acre site is located on the western edge of the state park system, north of Fort Myers, Florida. Forest, water and wildlife have a long history as natural habitats for birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds of prey, fish, insects and reptiles.

Although Walnut Point has many developed leisure facilities, it has retained its natural character and beauty, as well as its historical and cultural significance. The extensive forest area of the park is dominated by a variety of bird species, reptiles, amphibians, birds of prey, fish and reptiles.

The roadside is particularly beautiful in spring, when the red buds of wildflowers bloom and the autumn colours are varied and spectacular. The park also includes a variety of trees and shrubs, as well as a large number of birds of prey, amphibians and reptiles. It features drag curves, treetop trails and scenic views of the town of Walnut Point and its surroundings.

The park is home to many mammals, amphibians and reptiles, and birdwatchers will find a variety of birds of prey as well as a large number of reptiles and mammals. Duck herons and Canada geese can also be seen around the lake, so Walnut Point is a place that offers great views of the city and its surroundings, along with scenic views of the river and lake.

On the southern shore of the lake, an earth dam is formed that flows into the Walnut River, the main source of drinking water for the city. The lake is dazed and except for electric tugs, boat engines and other vehicles are not allowed.

From April to October, concessions are granted to visitors and the park is managed by the Ministry of Natural Resources. Walnut Point was named after the first pioneer settlement in Douglas County.

The community was founded in 1830, about two miles from the parks, but no longer exists. It opened in 1968 and is now part of the state park system, along with other state parks in the area.
Services include hiking, cycling, camping, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, horseback riding, mountain biking and hiking in the park.

The number of concessions is 217 - 346 - 3281, and there are also a number of concessions in Walnut Point State Park, such as picnic tables, picnic tables, food trucks and a flushing toilet. There is also an open air campground with pool and picnic area, as well as various types of tents offered by Walnuts Point State Park.

Drinking water and sanitary discharge stations are available, but the camp is closed in cold weather, so there is no drinking water for the park.

Campers are reminded that they must have their main campsite with them before they can occupy the site or obtain a permit. RV parks in class A - C are currently available, but also campsites of classes B - D, C - F and D - G are available.

Please contact the park office for up-to-date information and specific details. There is designated parking space in the parking lot at the western end of Walnut Point State Park. A wooded picnic area with picnic table, picnic tables and picnic chairs is available for campers in classes A - C, B - D, C - F and D.

Firewood is not provided but is available at the concession and can be used by campers in classes A - C, B - D, C - F and D. No firewood is provided in Walnut Point State Park during the summer months.

With the grey squirrel, walkers and joggers can complete a three-kilometre training loop, and the pupils find a path leading into the forest. The path is only accessible for pedestrians and disabled persons, but the park road and the connecting paths are used by everyone.

Programs that help visitors to better appreciate the natural resources of the site are seasonal, please contact the park office for more information and details.

If the ice is thick enough, ice fishing and skating are allowed, and there are also many areas for cross-country skiing.

Other attractions in the Walnut Point area include the Norton Knolls Golf Course in Oakland, which is about two miles from the park, and the Olde Barn Clays Sports Complex near Oakland. Walnuts Point State Park is one of California's largest state parks, covering a total of 1.5 million acres.

It is a popular destination for hiking, biking, camping, fishing and other outdoor activities, as well as recreation in the Bay Area.
