About Red Hills State Park

Red Hills State Park awaits you: Red Hills is a carefully preserved and well-preserved 948-acre area of high, wooded hills at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Red Hills is located on the west side of Lake Ontario, north of San Francisco Bay, and is one of the oldest and most scenic parks in California. It is located just a few miles from the city of Los Angeles.

This unspoilt, everyday sanctuary offers the opportunity to relax and rediscover the highlights of the Red Hill, dominated by the summit - the crossing of the Rose. The glittering lake, 40 acres, is ideal for fishing and boating and offers scenic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the San Gabriel Mountains. The annual Easter services have been a popular activity since 1943, as has the annual Red Hills Festival of Arts and Crafts.

It contains the so-called Wabash Border Marsh ecosystem, a thriving river and wetlands with a variety of native plants and animals. Rose mallow, wild flowers, grasses, trees, shrubs, birds, reptiles, amphibians and birds of prey inhabit the wetlands.

The park is one of the first states in Illinois to be ceded to the United States by the native people. The area is called Vincennes Tract and the border runs through the park from southwest to northeast. It was founded by General Anthony Wayne after the Indians had given up their land in the area during the American Civil War. Veteran's Point is a quarter-acre property dedicated to honoring former war veterans and providing a venue for local veterans groups and gatherings.

The area is cut off from Old Cahokia Trace, commonly known as Trace Road, which runs along what is now the US 50 and has been for many years. The development and improvement of the leisure facilities of the park is continuous. In 1953, a 40-hectare lake was created along the river, which has since grown to its current size. The Indian border, the western border that runs through the parks, is marked by a series of determined joggers who match the original survey lines.

For longer stays, the park has camping pitches with vehicles and disabled parking is also available.

The site will be relocated to a 50 amp service and for longer stays there is a campsite with one vehicle and a parking space for up to four vehicles.

There is also a parking space for up to four vehicles and a 50 amp service in the Nordpark, but permission must be obtained from the park staff.

The ballroom can accommodate an additional 50 guests and can be booked for private parties and meetings. The restaurant is open all year round and offers views of the surrounding hardwood forests and Red Hills National Park. This fine cuisine is enriched by a variety of local ingredients such as fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs. Visitors to the Trace Inn can also enjoy unique craftsmanship and collectibles in the antique shop.

For a family outing, there is no better way to spend the day than having a picnic and a pleasant shady picnic spot in Red Hills State Park. The area is convenient for parking and there are plenty of picnic tables as well as picnic chairs and tables for you to have.

The park is surrounded by a picturesque and medium-difficult path, where you can observe a variety of wildlife such as deer, elk, coyotes, bears, wolves, foxes and other wildlife.

There are also 5 km of trails for horse riding and cycling, if the ground conditions allow, and riding stables (class C) are available. There is also a 5-mile horse riding trail, whose conditions are allowed.

There are also 5 hectares of hiking trails - horseback riding, cycling and hiking, and 4 hectares for hiking, biking and snowshoeing.

In the winter months, when the ice is thick enough, you can go ice fishing and ice skating on the lake. There is also snowshoeing and tobogganing, as well as snowmobiling and snowboarding.
