About Lake Bistineau State Park

The park is located on the west bank of Lake Bistineau and offers a variety of scenic views of the lake and its surroundings, as well as a number of hiking trails. The park, with a total area of 1.5 million hectares, offers more than 2,000 hectares of open space for hiking, biking, camping, fishing and recreation.

Lake Bistineau has been around for over 200 years and is home to the largest freshwater fish population in the world. During the Jojo season, which begins in January and runs through spring, summer and early autumn, dedicated fishermen pull white hooded bass, black hooded bass and black and white hooded bass out of the clear waters of the lake.

It all began in the 19th century, when huge tree trunks flooded several thousand hectares of land with the Red River. Gradually, however, the lake began to drain and a permanent dam was built on Loggy Bayou, creating what is now Bistineau Lake. The dam grew over the years, giving the reservoir its current size of 1.5 million cubic feet per second.

Picnicking around the lake is extremely popular, and there are several picnic pavilions available for large groups. Area 1 is located on the west side of the park, in the Loggy Bayou area, north of Bistineau Lake.

Area 2 is reached by returning to LA 163, which connects the main part of the park to the lake and includes Bistineau Lake Trail, Loggy Bayou Trail and several other trails. The network of paths through the park includes a path for visitors who want to see the beauty of the park from the water.

In Area 1 there are also arrangements for overnight stays, but the car parks are closed on Saturday and Sunday from 6 am to 6 pm and on Monday and Tuesday from 5 pm to 7 am.

Cottages with bedrooms, bathrooms and fully equipped kitchens are a very popular attraction.

These include one bedroom, bathroom and fully equipped kitchen cabins, as well as a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom. Each cabin has central air conditioning and heating, making it comfortable all year round. This includes a kitchen with oven, hob, microwave, refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher, washer and dryer, as well as an outdoor shower and bathroom for up to four people.
