About Granville State Forest

This vast, hilly terrain was once a hunting and fishing area for the Tunxis tribe, but later became open farmland and pasture land that is slowly turning into the Granville State Forest, one of the largest state forests in the United States. The state forest covers 2,426 acres and is located on the western edge of Grandville County, north of New York City. It creates a sense of tranquil seclusion with views of Lake Michigan, the Mississippi River and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Enjoy a stroll along the Hubbard River, which runs through the Granville State Forest and flows into Lake Michigan, Mississippi and Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The banks of the river, which today bear the name Grandville County, State of New York, were settled by the Tunxis in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as part of a settlement.

The Granville State Forest is located in the southern Berkshire Hills in western Massachusetts. Leisure facilities in Granille include wooded campsites with toilets and showers, which provide access to nearby regional and tourist attractions. Other popular activities include hiking, camping, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, horseback riding, skiing, mountain biking and wildlife watching.
