About Interlochen State Park

Located in the heart of Interlaken State Park, just a few miles north of the city of Rochester, New York, it offers great views of Lake Michigan and the Hudson River. Renowned musicians from all walks of life give concerts throughout the season, as well as special events such as concerts in the amphitheater of the park.

The northeastern coast of Lake Michigan is 25 miles west of the park, and the famous fishing and swimming lake is just a few miles east of Interlaken State Park, north of Rochester.

The shop and café are located in the day use area, are close to the volleyball courts and the beach, have a video library and have video stores. The park was established by the Michigan Legislature in 1917 as Michigan's first state park to pay $60,000 for the land.

Originally it was called Interlaken State Park, a 200-acre public park created to preserve the original pine forest for all people of Michigan. A national music camp has been set up on the land bordering the northern edge of the park.

Rowing boats and kayaks can be rented, but reservations are possible, and you can rent a rowing boat or kayak for $10 per day or $20 per week for a two-day trip.

In the summer months, perch, pike and blue perch can be found on the lake, and scented perch are a popular destination for anglers who like ice fishing. The park has three start-up campsites: the round Duck Lake campsite has access to the area, and the third is begging on the rustic Green Lake campsite.

The Interlochen Center for the Arts borders the park and renowned musicians give concerts throughout the year. Picnic blankets can be rented, reservations are possible in the parks under the numbers 231 - 276 - 9511.

Also popular at Interlochen State Park is the three-discipline triathlon, which takes place in July. The timetable is located at the Riverside Canoe and Livery Plate, which you can reach by calling 231 - 325 - 5622.

US 31 W. Traverse City, which runs from Interlochen 7 miles to US 31 W. and then 7 more miles to the entrance of the park on the west side of the road.
