About Muskegon State Park

Muskegon State Park is located on the east side of the city of Muskego, Michigan, north of Grand Rapids. It is the second largest national park in Michigan and the third largest in the state of Michigan.

The wooded dunes, waterfalls and natural beauty of Muskegon State Park reflect the important resources that visitors have enjoyed for years. The Muskego River, the largest body of water in the state of Michigan, is one of the most beautiful in the world.

Founded in 1923, Muskegon State Park has received a lot of support from local people over the years and continues to contribute to the high quality of life at the site. The city of Muskego has donated land to our Natural Resources Department to build this park.

Muskegon State Park offers excellent facilities for boating and fishing enthusiasts. For boats, there is an accessible fishing pier and canal pier, and additional fishing pier are available in Snug Harbor. In the cozy harbor there is an illuminated jetty where you can start any boat of any size with trailer.

For day trippers, Lake Michigan beach is ideal for sunbathing and swimming, and a bathhouse is located in the beach area. Blockhouse Overlook offers picturesque views of Lake Michigan and the dunes, and there is a cozy picnic area near the harbor on Lake Muskegon.

A 12-mile marked trail is located in the park and the trail winds around the shores of Lake Michigan in a winding loop overlooking Muskegon Bay, Lake Huron, the dunes and Lake Superior.

In the park there is a 12-kilometre-long marked trail, which illuminates cross-country skiers for up to five hours. The trail winds around the shores of Lake Michigan in a winding loop and offers views of Muskegon Bay, Lake Huron, the dunes and Lake Superior.

Take US-31 to the M-120 exit in North Muskegon and follow signs to the park. Nearby attractions include the Michigan Museum of Natural History, Michigan State University and the University of Michigan.
