About Charles Mears State Park

Charles Mears State Park is located on the west side of the Mississippi River, south of Lake Charles, Louisiana, in the state of Louisiana.

The beach next to the pier is a paved pitch surrounded by fine sand, and there is also a beach on the west side of the park, with sandy beach and picnic area. Landfishing at Pentwater Lake is very popular in autumn and in winter it offers excellent ice fishing opportunities. Fishing from the fairground next to the park is also a popular activity year - around fishing from the fairground in the next park.

There is a one kilometer long hiking trail and snowmobiles are allowed, and the park is supported by activities. It also has a metal detector and winds through wooded and sandy dunes that offer great views of the lake, beach and picnic area.

The existing Parkland was given to Charles Mears, an early pentagonal settler, and the land was handed over to the State of Michigan in 1923 by Carrie Mearls, the daughter of Charles Mears.

In the fall, land fishing at Pentwater Lake is very popular, and anglers can expect to catch steelhead, perch and trout there. Fishing from the berths next to the park is also a popular activity throughout the year, but it offers excellent ice fishing in winter. There, the anglers melt and catch trout, salmon, perch, Valais and other fish species, as well as a variety of other fish.

Picnic tables, barbecues and fire circles are available in the picnic area, and Pentwater Lake has a picnic table and barbecue circle.

Up to 250 vehicles can be parked there, a total of 1500 vehicles can be parked in the park's parking lot, with a maximum of 250 parking spaces.

The park is located near the resort of Pentwater, which offers many unique activities for park visitors. There is a 1.5 km nature trail that winds through wooded and sandy dunes and offers views of the sea, the beach and a variety of animal species, as well as a number of waterfalls and other natural features.

On July 3rd, fireworks will be held in the park, and on the Saturday before the holidays, July 4th, the Whitsun art and crafts markets will begin. The second Thursday in August marks the start of the four-day Homecoming Festival, which includes fireworks, a carnival and a variety of activities for children and families. The last weekend of September is the Autumn Festival and the annual art fair with a wide range of events and activities such as concerts, food trucks, crafts, music and more.

Charter fishing is also available at the local marinas, boat trips from the berths at the marina in Pentwater and charter fishing from the park's parking lot.

Snowmobiles are allowed in the park, as are snowshoeing, snowmobiling and other recreational activities. All activities supported by this park are recognized as legitimate recreational activities by metal detection, as long as they are carried out in a manner that does not violate or violate applicable state laws.

Take US-31 to Monroe Rd and walk approximately 5 blocks to the park entrance and park at the north end of the parking lot on the east side of Monroe.
