About Bear Head Lake State Park

In a remote northern forest, the park is home to pristine lakes, where eagles, wild flowers and birds of prey nest. The white and red pines overhang birch, aspen and fir trees, and above them white - and - red pine trees.

The trails in the park offer plenty for snowmobiles, skiers and hikers, and the miles of coastline can be explored by canoe. The park is located south of the Boundary Waters canoe area and has similar wilderness qualities. Swimming on the beach, kayaking, boating, fishing, hiking and camping are possible as well as hiking, cycling and snowmobiling.

This beautiful northern forest park is dotted with lakes and is one of the most popular destinations for boat trips and camping in the area. The forest is a mixture of pines, birches, firs, elms, oaks, maples and pines. A three-bedroom guest house can be rented for the season at Bear Head Lake State Park for $1,000 a month or $2,500 a year.

This small, clear trout lake is located in rugged terrain and offers visitors the scenic beauty that attracts so many visitors every year. The park is located south of the BWCA access point and is accessible by boat from the Bear Head Lake State Park parking lot.

The rocks of Barenkopf Lake were formed by volcanoes and ancient seas, and the glacier has excavated a hollowed out and hollowed out area of the lake of about 1.5 miles in length and 2 miles in width.

At the crossing of the lake, visitors can see the rocks left by the glacier and at its crossing with the river. Glaci activity created an area of about 1.5 miles in length and 2 miles in width with a depth of about 1 mile.

The northern forest around Bear Head Lake, which covers 674 hectares, is home to a variety of wildlife. Hiking trails and roads offer visitors the opportunity to discover white deer - tail deer, black bears, wolves, coyotes, elks, elks and many other species. Throughout the park, birdwatchers can also observe a wide range of bird species, such as owls, peregrine falcons, eagles, falcons, geese, foxes, turkeys, ducks, squirrels, raccoons, birds of prey and much more.

At the turn of the century, some deforestation was done, but little is documented until the Minnesota Legislature created the park in 1961. In 1911 and 1913, several fires raged in the area and consumed the forest within the boundaries of the park. In 1910 a sawmill was built at Bärenkopfsee, which remained in operation until 1911.
