The dwarf trout lilies are only found here, but you can enjoy the park on foot at any time of the year. In spring it is a great place for hiking, camping, picnics and other outdoor activities. In summer, guests can relax at Hidden Falls, hike, bike, canoe, kayak or even camp in the woods.

Autumn brings red, orange and gold shimmer, and in spring Nerstrand Big Woods State Park is surrounded by wildflower gardens. In winter you can ski, snowmobile, or even ski, hike, bike, canoe, kayak and much more in the ski area of the park.

Nerstrand Big Woods State Park consists of three main areas: Hidden Falls, Prairie Creek and the Great Lakes. The limestone is only visible where currents blow in and out of Hidden Falls and Prairie Creek, and where the river flows.

When the first settlers arrived in 1854, they discovered an island forest in the middle of the vast savannah landscape that now forms Nerstrand Big Woods State Park.
