About Afton State Park

The rugged, hilly landscape of the park is adorned with large oaks and delicate prairie flowers. The trail winds through deep gorges, climbs over grassy ridges and cliffs overlooking the picturesque St. Croix River and leads to restored prairies. Follow the path and climb along a slope, past a series of large oak woods and a small stream, before winding through a deep gorge and leading to a restored prairie path.

The park is located on a glacial moraine landscape and offers visitors a variety of hiking, camping, backpacking and camping opportunities as well as hiking trails and trails to the St. Croix River.

This forest connects highland deciduous forest with pine plantations and connects it with highland deciduous forests. It consists of a combination of oak and woodland with a mixture of grassland, shrubs, trees, grassland and scrubland.

Deer, foxes and badgers live here, and birdwatchers can observe birds of prey such as owls, falcons, eagles, geese and geckos. Wildflowers in the park include those that are not - forgotten - shining - in - the - night stars, wildflowers, grasses, shrubs and trees. The savannah has been restored through an aggressive resource management program based on extensive volunteer work. What is left of the prairie is turned into a green area with a mixture of grassland, bushland and forest, as well as a variety of shrubs and green areas.

The park is criss-crossed by a deep gorge that descends 300 metres to the river and features spectacular sandstone outcrops along the gorge. The rugged terrain offers a variety of scenic views of the stream and its tributaries, as well as a wide variety of flora and fauna. This park was founded to preserve unique natural features and to create opportunities for recreation in the vicinity of nature.
