About Natchez State Park
Natchez State Park is located on the banks of the Mississippi River, north of Jackson, Mississippi, about 30 miles south of Nashville, Tennessee. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, more than half of all millionaires in the United States lived in the state, building elegant villas unparalleled in size and elegance. Most of these magnificent houses were spared during the Civil War, and many are now open for guided tours.
Natchez State Park is also known for its large freshwater lakes, the largest in the United States. The largest estuary, weighing 18 to 15 pounds, was captured at NatcheZ Lake in 1992 by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and the Mississippi River National Wildlife Refuge.
