About Cuivre River State Park

Not far from St. Louis, this park is a haven for nature lovers, and the Cuivre River State Park gives it a wilder, ozarkier flavor. I spent a few days in the park and it was a pleasure to be out in the fresh air, especially in spring when many wildflowers bloomed and prairie grasses rose above my head.

The park's two wilderness areas offer hiking, backpacking, photography and wildlife viewing, and Lincoln Lake offers swimming, boating and fishing. There are both primitive and modern campsites and there are also horse riding trails, horseback riding, hiking, canoeing, kayaking and other activities.

Several hiking trails lead to Big Sugar Creek, the largest of Sugar Creek, and several other streams in the park's wilderness area.

Lincoln Lake has a public beach and changing rooms, but swimming in Cuivre River State Park is limited to the beach area. CuIVre and visit one of the largest and most rugged parks in the state for a few hours or a few days. Set on an oceanic island in the rolling Missouri plains, the rivers and streams of the Cuavre and the vast expanses of wilderness, it is an ideal destination for kayaking, canoeing, hiking, fishing, camping or even a day trip.

The use of the lake is limited to electric motors and you do not have to buy a gas engine. Lincoln Lake has a concrete shooting range, but it is only allowed to use it for electric motors.

There are no entrance fees and there are several entrances for fishing, but the lake itself is not open to the public. Lincoln Lake is a 55-acre lake of white-mouthed fish, redfish and catfish and is home to Dots Lake, the state's largest freshwater lake.

There are six picnic areas in the park and there are also two picnic shelters, but please contact your local recreation department or the National Park Office for seasonal arrangements.

The stone cottages at the end of the highway have picnic shelters with picnic tables, barbecues and toilets. These accommodations are ideal for family celebrations and special excursions, as well as for special occasions such as picnics, weddings and other special occasions.

These accommodations are equipped with picnic tables, barbecues, toilets, picnic chairs and other amenities and can accommodate up to 120 guests. There is also a shelter on the south side of the motorway at the end of Covington Road, just off the road. If you do not reserve the shelter, it will not be available to you and you will be charged a reservation fee of $40 per day.

The shelter is only available by reservation and you will pay a reservation fee of $50 per day. To make reservations for these accommodations, please contact the parking office at 636 - 528 - 7247.

The Cuivre River State Park includes nine hiking trails of varying lengths and difficulty, and many miles of hiking trails are open to hikers and horseback riders. The path winds through wooded hills and offers scenic views of the summit of French Bluff. This trail leads through the restored prairie of Cuivres River National Park and is open from June to October for hiking and horseback riding.

Conservationists also organise nature walks and various interpretation programmes throughout the year. Evening programs offer a variety of activities for children and adults, such as canoeing, hiking, kayaking and other outdoor activities.
