About Dayton State Park

Dayton State Park is located on the west side of Dayton, Ohio, south of the Ohio River. The Carson River flows through the park and offers fishing, bird watching and a variety of other activities including kayaking, canoeing, hiking and camping.

Built in 1861, Rock Point Mill was once used to process coal, iron ore, steel, copper, lead, zinc and other metals. The remains of the mill are still visible in the park west of US 50, picnic tents and group facilities are available.

Dayton's summer temperatures range from 80 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit, with lows in the 40s and 50s. Dayton State Park is located on the west side of Dayton, east of the Ohio River and west of the US 50. The park is open all year round - with 10 campsites and tents is first come, first served. There are normally no campsites, but camping can be done on the basis of the first-come-first-serve method during the summer months from June to October.

The campsites are limited to a total length of 34 feet, with a maximum of one tent per campsite and at least two tents per day per campsite.

The rental costs vary according to the number of people (click here for group fees) and there is a $5 per person per day per tent and $10 per night per campsite. Group pavilions must be behaved, but there are no rules or regulations for using the pavilion or other amenities in Dayton State Park.

In your imagination you can imagine what was here in the past, but today only the basics are there.

When the silver boom began, this place was used as a place to process ore and free precious metals. Water was needed for the process as well as water for water treatment and drinking water.

One of the largest was Rock Point Mill, built in 1861 for $200,000 and leading to the construction of many other mills in the area, such as the Silver Mill and the Gold Mill. The power source for the mill was water coming from the Carson River through wooden pipes.
